In order to support the design department Airbus Commercial is looking for an

Industrial Designer Specialist (d/f/m)

As an Industrial Designer Specialist you will act as the technical backbone of our creative output. You will translate visionary cabin concepts into high-fidelity digital assets, leveraging our 20-year heritage of development while pushing the boundaries of digital modelling. Working closely with our Rapid Architecture Lab (RAL) and broader design teams, you will ensure design quality and serve as the expert for complex surfacing and visualisation. This is a unique opportunity to influence the future of aviation regarding sustainability and passenger inclusivity.

Your location

You will be working at the largest production site for civil aircraft situated in Hamburg. Its location on the southern banks of the river Elbe includes the option to commute by ferry. Your tasks and responsibilities

  • Leading the creation of complex 3D surfaces and Class-A geometry for all cabin programmes, including the A320 and A350 Family.
  • Driving the product development lifecycle by transforming functional and aesthetic values into brand-coherent products.
  • Generating innovative concepts to challenge status-quo thinking within the cabin domain.
  • Managing the predefinition and visualisation of concepts using Digital Mock-Ups (DMU) and coordinating with external vendors.
  • Applying deep knowledge of material science and production processes to ensure design feasibility.
  • Acting as the key design interface between Hamburg and Toulouse design community to harmonise the Airbus cabin vision.
  • Representing the design function in technical forums with Engineering and Procurement to influence decision-making for critical milestones.
  • Driving the integration of generative AI, VR/AR, and advanced prototyping processes like 3D printing within our RAL workshops.

Desired skills and qualifications

  • Educated to degree level in Industrial Design or Transportation Design
  • Solid professional experience as a senior designer, within a complex technical environment such as aerospace or automotive.
  • Expert-level skills in Alias Surface or Rhino (NURBS) and high proficiency in Blender or similar polygonal modelling tools.
  • Deep understanding of manufacturing constraints and the ability to adapt digital designs for physical realisation.
  • Proven ability to communicate design intent to Engineering and Programme management and negotiate technical solutions.
  • Negotiation level in English is mandatory; proficiency in German or French is a significant advantage.
