At our Airbus Helicopters site in Marignane we are looking for a Development Engineer Airframe (f/m/d) within our “Airframe Design Engineering” team for the department “Airframe Design New Platforms”.

This department is responsible for the development of helicopter structures of all new programs and demonstrators.

Tasks & accountabilities

Your responsibilities will be related to the new development projects. . Your activities will be linked to different phases of the development:

  • Preliminary design of the new helicopter structure, with subassemblies and single parts.
  • Drawing set for the first prototypes, test rigs and test parts, all the way to the serial drawings
  • Support to Industrialization
  • Support the flying prototypes and determine retrofit solutions
  • Schedule and follow-up of certification activities up to the Type Certificate.


This position gives you the rare opportunity to take part in all these phases for a new helicopter in an international environment.

Your perimeter will include the following technical topics, among others:

  • Development and design of single parts and subassemblies for prototypes, pre-serial and serial Helicopter Primary Structures.
  • Design of complex composite, milled and sheet metal formed parts.
  • Creation of CAD models, drawings and bill of materials including release process.
  • Definition of manufacturing processes together with manufacturing, tooling design and quality including support of industrialization.
  • Selection of suitable materials and material combinations.
  • Compliance with the planned dates, costs and quality.
  • Cross-departmental cooperation with other helicopter systems.


Requires skills

The ideal candidate will have many of the following attributes, some of which can be acquired on the job:

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or similar.
  • Knowledge of composite materials and metallic lightweight materials
  • Helicopter and helicopter technology knowledge.
  • Very good analytical and conceptual competence.
  • High level of flexibility, team spirit and autonomy.
  • Experience with Catia V5, VPM and SAP.
  • Confident handling of MS Office/Google Workspace
  • French and English: negotiation level
  • German is advantageous
