Job Description

Job Description:

Airbus Commercial Aircraft is looking for a CIFRE PhD student on “Dynamic Control Law for a loads protection function” (f/m) to join our Loads & Aeroelasticity department based in Toulouse, France.

You will be part of a team developing all of our current and future commercial aircraft programmes. As part of the Loads Solutions Toulouse team, you will be involved in research activities aiming at optimising the interface between systems and structure to support multidisciplinary optimisation of the overall aircraft design.

Your working environment:

Global capital of aeronautics and European capital for space research, Toulouse is a dynamic city in the southwest of France served by an international airport. Ideally located between the Mediterranean sea and the Atlantic ocean and close to the Pyrenees mountains, it offers plenty of options for outdoor activities!

How we care for you:

  • Financial rewards: Attractive salary, agreements on success and profit sharing schemes, employee savings plan abounded by Airbus and employee stock purchase plan on a voluntary basis.
  • Work / Life Balance: Extra days-off for special occasions, holiday transfer option, a Staff council offering many social, cultural and sport activities and other services.
  • Wellbeing / Health: Complementary health insurance coverage (disability, invalidity, death). Depending on the site: health services centre, concierge services, gym, carpooling application.
  • Individual development: Great upskilling opportunities and development prospects with unlimited access to +10.000 e-learning courses to develop your employability, certifications, expert career path, accelerated development programmes, national and international mobility.

At Airbus, we support you to work, connect and collaborate more easily and flexibly. Wherever possible, we foster flexible working arrangements to stimulate innovative thinking.

Your challenges:

  • New challenges for commercial aircraft are autonomy, and finding a new overall aircraft configuration to optimise the performance.
  • In this context a high aspect ratio wing is a good candidate, but with strong challenges on its weight and the loads it has to withstand.
  • The objective for this research PhD of 3 years is to work in Airbus in cooperation between the Loads & Aeroelasticity domain and the Flight Control Laws domain, supported by the ISAE-SUPAERO engineering school, to develop an automatic loads protection function.
  • It will rely on a good observer of the loads plus recent automatic methodology to ensure appropriate response of the system for a robust and contained load level during extreme events (turbulence, manoeuvres).

Your boarding pass:

  • A Masters Degree in Aerospace Engineering or equivalent
  • Strong background in automatic control theory
  • Good knowledge of Aircraft Loads and Aeroelasticity
  • Practice of: Matlab, Simulink Python
  • Advanced level in English
