Job Description:

Airbus Commercial Aircraft is looking for a Cabin & Cargo Development Recovery Leader (Contract ) to join our Engineering team in Herndon, VA.

In this role you will lead multifunctional End-to-End activities on-site at supplier premises to support work package development & industrialization, in situations where significant risks for Airbus materialized and a strong recovery effort is needed to secure on-time and on-quality delivery to the respective Airbus sites.

Your Working Environment:

The Washington, D.C. metro area is home to multiple Airbus offices: In our nation’s capital you will find the Airbus Experience Center, a collection of interactive, multimedia exhibitions highlighting the extensive role the company plays in the aviation, aerospace and defense industries in the U.S. and around the world. Your Challenges:

Primary Responsibilities:

End-to-End Project Management of Product Development

  • Manage the execution of a Cabin & Cargo new product introduction (NPI) work package on site at a supplier.
  • Work closely with the supplier and hold regular review meetings to monitor & drive the progress and maturity of the work package.
  • Ensure efficient collaboration amongst the different supplier and Airbus functions along agreed milestones and deliverables, implement and operate a cross-functional local IPT governance.
  • Provide continuous and accurate visibility and communication to all Airbus internal stakeholders up to Sr. Management level.
  • Anticipate risks and issues likely to impact the program parameters and proactively ensure these are addressed, communicated and elevated when necessary.
  • Demonstrate proactive program management with frequent on site interaction and assessment of the supply base, including suppliers sub tiers.
  • Interact with the supplier on a frequent basis to determine if Airbus communication and requirements were received, understood and are being implemented, take appropriate action with the supplier if not.
  • Determine if supplier development teams are enabled and working in the Airbus and assigned project development environment, and take appropriate action with the supplier to secure the deployment of Processes, Methods and Tools (PMT) as needed.
  • Act as a day to day extension of the central program teams, PDTs and Functions.
  • Support maturity reviews, program reviews, and industrial reviews with the suppliers.

Outputs -

  • End-to-End development/recovery/improvement plans for assigned development projects.
  • Follow-on recommendations to initiate recovery to responsible and concerned teams.
  • Visibility, communication and assessment products as required.
  • Advice and counsel to Program, PDTs and Functions.
  • Based upon the supplier situation and position in the assigned program/project, the job holder will provide recurring reports covering progress, risks and mitigations to all concerned domains.

Education:

Required

  • Master’s degree in engineering, quality or program management or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Fifteen (15) years of experience in the aviation industry, in the areas of project management, design and production
  • Ability to work under pressure, with short deadlines and a changing environment.
  • Experience with management decisions and overall vision
  • Excellent decision-making and problem-solving skills.

Travel Required:

  • 80% onsite at supplier

Physical Requirements

  • Onsite 60%

  • Vision: Daily able to see and read computer screen and other electronic equipment with screens, able to read documents, reports and engineering drawings.
  • Hearing: Daily able to hear to participate in conversations in person and via teleconference or phone and to hear sounds on production floor including safety warnings or alarms.
  • Speaking: Daily able to speak in conversations and meetings, deliver information and participate in communications.
  • Equipment Operation (personal computer, telephone, copies, fax machine, and related office equipment and using electronic identification card to enter building floors and internal doors): Daily able to operate most office and personal electronic equipment and some tools including production tools such as hydraulic lifts.
  • Carrying: Several times a week able to carry documents, tools, drawings, electronic equipment up to 30lbs/14kgs.
  • Lifting: Several times a week able to lift documents, tools, drawings, electronic equipment up to 30lbs/14kgs.
  • Pushing / Pulling: Several times a week able to push and pull small office furniture and some equipment and tools.
  • Sitting: Daily able to sit for long periods of time in meetings, working on computer.
  • Squatting / Kneeling: Several times a month able to squat or kneel to retrieve or replace items stored on low shelving.
  • Standing: Daily able to stand for discussions in offices or on production floor.
  • Travel: Rarely able to travel independently and at short notice.
  • Walking (include routine walking such as to a shared printer to retrieve documents): Daily able to walk through office and production areas including uneven surfaces.
  • Appropriate hearing/eye protection may also be required when visiting the shop floor

This position is a temporary (contract) position with no specific time period but could be extended or shortened as needed. Contractors are employed by a 3rd party vendor and placed on assignment to Airbus in America.
