Job Description:

Airbus US Manufacturing Facility is looking for a Business Unit Leader to join our Manufacturing department based in Mobile, AL.

The Business Unit Leader for A320 Completions and Final Phase at Airbus Americas, Inc. will be responsible for the strategic direction, operational performance, and overall success of the A320 Completions and Final Phase business unit, ensuring the efficient and high-quality delivery of aircraft to customers.

Your working environment:

Nearby on ‘Airbus Way’ you will find the Airbus U.S. Manufacturing Facility for commercial aircraft. Opened at the Mobile Aeroplex at Brookley in 2015, the facility produces A320 Family aircraft and added a second product line for the A220 in 2019. The facility, which strengthens the U.S. aerospace industry, is part of Airbus’ strategy to enhance its global competitiveness by meeting the growing needs of its customers in the United States and beyond.

Your Challenges:

  • Lead and manage all aspects of the A320 Completions and Final Phase business unit, including production, engineering, quality, supply chain, and customer relations.
  • Develop and execute strategic plans to achieve business objectives, including financial targets, operational efficiency, and customer satisfaction .
  • Oversee the entire completions process, from initial customer specifications and design reviews to final delivery and post-delivery support.
  • Ensure adherence to all relevant aerospace regulations, company policies, and quality standards.
  • Manage budgets, resource allocation, and project timelines to optimize performance and control costs.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement, innovation, and operational excellence within the business unit.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with internal stakeholders (e.g., sales, engineering, manufacturing) and external partners (e.g., suppliers, customers).
  • Develop, mentor, and lead a high-performing team, promoting professional growth and employee engagement.
  • Identify and mitigate risks associated with production, supply chain, and market fluctuations.
  • Prepare and present regular reports on business unit performance to senior management.

Your Boarding Pass:

  • Bachelors' degree in Aeronautical, Industrial or Manufacturing Engineering or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • A minimum of 8-10 years of experience in Production Operations (Manufacturing Engineering, Assembly Processes, Production method, etc.).
  • 5 or more years of experience in a leadership position.
  • Experience with project management is preferred.
  • Experience in a multicultural work environment.
  • Experience with Quality / Logistics rules in aviation manufacturing.
  • Demonstrate effective communication skills on different levels, a structured way of working and the ability to deal with a volume of complex information.
  • Experience as a member and leader of an international team.
  • Have an aptitude to plan and organize to ensure the attainment of results.
  • Knowledge of Quality Management Systems.
  • Ability to work in different production management systems.
  • High degree of flexibility and initiative.
  • Industry safety practices and procedures.
  • Demonstrably effective communication skills on different levels, a structured way of working and the ability to deal with a volume of complex information.
  • Daily decisions impacting cost and quality of the a/c build, including on-time delivery.
  • Impact of missed opportunities can create ripple effects across the Airbus Operational System, safety of the workforce, and reputation of the organization.
  • Daily decisions range in complexity that impact internal and external stakeholders.
  • Decisions range from highly critical items regarding work allocation, planning, and resource allocation to more routine decisions around daily tasks.
  • Ability to make strategic operational decisions and communicate clearly across the business.
  • Responsible for positive customer experience and relationships during customer stages.
  • Additionally, missed takts early in the process may impact the ultimate customer delivery at the end of the production process.
  • Responsible for effective resource and time management, impacting CVAT and OT KPIs.

Physical Requirements:

  • Vision: Able to see and read computer screens and other electronic equipment with screens, able to read documents, reports and engineering drawings.
  • Hearing: Able to hear to participate in conversations in person and via teleconference or phone and to hear sounds on the production floor including safety warnings or alarms.
  • Speaking: Able to speak in conversations and meetings, deliver information and participate in communications.
  • Equipment Operation (personal computer, telephone, copies, fax machine, and related office equipment and using electronic identification card to enter building floors and internal doors): Able to operate most office and personal electronic equipment and some tools including production tools such as hydraulic lifts.
  • Carrying: Able to carry documents, tools, drawings, electronic equipment up to 30lbs/14kgs.
  • Lifting: Able to lift documents, tools, drawings, electronic equipment up to 30lbs/14kgs.
  • Pushing / Pulling: Able to push and pull small office furniture and some equipment and tools.
  • Sitting: Able to sit for long periods of time in meetings, working on the computer.
  • Squatting / Kneeling: Able to squat or kneel to retrieve or replace items stored on low shelving.
  • Standing: Able to stand for discussions in offices or on the production floor.
