Job Description

Job Description:

Join us to lead Airbus UpNext SparkHaven , a strategic demonstrator critical to Airbus decarbonization roadmap. This project will conceptualize, design, build, commission and operate a new, state-of-the-art ground test facility to test novel technologies on the Airbus campus in Getafe, Spain.

The mission is to accelerate the development and maturation of disruptive High Voltage Technologies for future aircraft. We will deepen Airbus’ understanding of complex HV phenomena by focusing on key technical objectives, including:

  • Validating HV Non-Propagation Strategies assessing the effectiveness of isolation barriers in nominal HV Architectures composed of HV Batteries, Power Converters and Electrical Power Distribution Systems.
  • Safely generating and analyzing the effects of critical Failure Modes like short circuits and arc-flash events in order to assess the performance and selectivity of various detection and protection mechanisms.
  • Characterizing Power Quality Deviations to establish future hardware specifications, assessing early prototypes performance against voltage and current transients, ripple and other relevant electric threads.
  • Demonstrating the effects of High-Altitude Environmental Conditions - up to a minimum target of 41,000 feet - on HV systems in order to better assess the potential benefits of equipment installation in non-pressurized compartments.

Airbus UpNext SparkHaven is not just a one-shot demonstrator; it's about investigating cutting edge HV technologies for commercial applications while creating a permanent, high-value testing asset for Airbus that will safely test the unsafe and serve as a foundational step for maturing new electrification technologies ⚡ for the years to come.

The Test Support & Control Engineer (M/F) position is within Airbus UpNext and it consists of a mission linked to the deliverable of the demonstrator (estimated completion date April - 2028 ) , starting ASAP.

Mission:

As the Test Support & Control Engineer, you are responsible for the “nervous system” of the facility, enabling high-speed data capture and real-time control to validate future aircraft architectures. You will design and implement the Control and Data Acquisition architectures required to capture microsecond-level phenomena and host Real-Time Models for Hardware-in-the-Loop testing in time and quality.

Your Main Responsibilities:

  • Test Support Control System: Design the architecture for the Test Support System both in terms of hardware and software, ensuring synchronization and safe operation between the master controller, electrical test means, safe containers and thermal support systems. Define & implement Human Machine Interface for control/monitoring proposes
  • Test Support High Speed Data Acquisition & Instrumentation : Implement a high sampling data acquisition system capable of capturing relevant electric phenomena while ensuring efficient post-processing for test and power quality analysis. Define & implement required Laboratory Test Instrumentation fulfilling test intentions as well as Human Machine Interface for monitoring proposes
  • Real-Time & HIL : Develop a system capable of hosting Airbus real-time models simulating virtual aircraft systems interacting with physical SUT HV hardware.
  • Test Support System Development : Detailing the architecture and design of the physical solution, define the software specification and drive the software implementation, validation and verification for a robust final product.
  • Integration & Commissioning : Oversee the physical and functional integration of the Test Support System, ensuring the proper operability between the Test Means equipment and the SUT.
  • Supplier Identification & Steering : Study the market selecting potential subcontractors. Perform Make / Buy trade-offs. Support call for tenders and negotiate technical proposals. Manage technical performance of external and internal suppliers ensuring adherence to Time, Cost, Quality objectives up to on-site acceptance test and in-service support activities.
  • In-Service Continuous Operability : Ensure by continuous improvements a high Test Support and Control System operational reliability once the Entry Into Service milestone is achieved. Plan, define and perform required maintenance tasks and define obsolescence management.
  • Risks & Opportunities : Identify and analyze risks & opportunities affecting E2E Test Support System development and integration, implementing corrective and preventive actions agreed within stop/go reviews.
