Job Description

Job Description:

Location : Saint Martin, Toulouse

Contract: Internship - 3 mois

As a Cryogenic Test Bench Architect Trainee (m/f), you will join a multidisciplinary, international team dedicated to developing an advanced superconducting and cryogenic powertrain. This system is promising for enabling high-power electric propulsion in Liquid Hydrogen aircraft.

The powertrain will incorporate a superconducting direct current network with protective features, a cryogenic motor drive, a superconducting electric motor, and a cryogenic cooling system. This development takes place in a dynamic, stimulating environment alongside global partners, including various research institutes, start-ups, and major industrial groups.

In preparation for the development of a new superconducting motor, the team is designing an entirely new test facility. This facility will be used to characterize and validate the superconducting coils, which form the core component of the motor.

For this 3-month internship, your work will support both the testing and motor teams as they develop a cryogenic helium cooling test bench. This bench will be used for characterizing superconducting coils and the overall system. Your responsibilities will first involve gathering and documenting the technical requirements for the test bench based on the team's specific needs. Following this, you will assist with the thermal and mechanical design of the cryogenic vacuum chamber.

You are passionate about aeronautics, science and technologies, and like to make and test yourself breakthrough technologies on concrete demonstrations. You like difficult challenges and are the type of person who thinks about “how things can be done” rather than “if they can be done”.

Main internship objectives:

You will be there to follow and participate to those kind of activities:

  • Observation of test sessions and analysis of results to understand the need and identify improvement needs.
  • Breakdown high-level functional needs into detailed technical requirements.
  • Structure requirements basis taking into consideration test engineer experience on current test bench. Draft the comprehensive technical requirement document (TRD) / statement of work for the test bench
  • Participate to test bench architecture definition covering instrumentation, facility, safety, and performance requirements
  • Participate in preliminary design phases, including thermodynamics and electric computation / simulation. (P&IDs, critical component selection, preliminary sizing)

Your boarding pass

Education: student in an Engineering School or Master's program, specializing in Energy Systems, Thermal Engineering, Process Engineering.
