There are over 1 billion people directly involved in small-scale agriculture. Together these farmers grow 70% of the world’s food. We want to connect these farmers on a platform so they can more effectively share knowledge, combine their buying and selling power, and ultimately rewrite global supply chains for their benefit. Our vision is to enable millions of small-scale farmers to fulfil their economic potential.
Founded in 2015 by Kenny Ewan, Wefarm was initially launched as pilot project from Within Producer’s Direct. After the initial Beta launch, Wefarm became an independent, mission-driven company, building a trusted digital platform that empowers a global community of small-scale farmers to be more successful.
To date, 2.5 million farmers have connected with one another for free and without access to the internet via the Wefarm SMS platform. This was the first technology for leveraging their collective expertise - and pioneering offline tech for the market in 2015.
Today, Wefarm can be accessed online and via SMS - and it is free for farmers to use. The platform enables farmers to share knowledge, and access a marketplace of trustworthy retailers.
Flexible working approach
Every Wefarmer is a shareholder in the business; we are all the makers and owners of Wefarm’s vision. We offer pension packages, enhanced parental leave and healthcare benefits globally, which vary slightly by location of employment, and monthly access to two coaching sessions with MoreHappi.
As a global business we believe that remote first is the future of work, and support our teams in creating the best setup for their personal situation; every Wefarmer gets the standard tech they need and a stipend to set up their home office & we offer flexible office solutions in our four main hub cities. Being remote first doesn’t mean we don’t spend time together though; we have regular global team events (virtual for now) and local meet ups (where possible), bi-weekly All Hands meeting to make sure everyone is up to date, and will get back to our annual WeCamp global get togethers as soon as we can do that safely.
Scoring against our flexibility index (1 = not at all flexible, 100 = couldn’t be more flexible, 51 is average) using a number of parameters to assess flexibility such as working from home, hours, frequency of travel, benefits, etc.
