Why did Frontify decide to update its company values, and what was the process like?

At Frontify, we help brands build a source of truth—and we believe it’s just as important to do the same for ourselves. As we continue to evolve, we saw an opportunity to strengthen our own employer brand by refining our company values. We wanted them to better reflect who we are, how we work, and what makes our culture unique. The refreshed message centers on four core beliefs: we are constructive, we thrive, we are united, and we are real.

To ensure our values truly resonated, we took a data-driven approach, leveraging insights from Peakon scoring and Glassdoor feedback. These metrics helped us identify any gaps in how our values were perceived and understood. From there, we embarked on a collaborative journey, engaging employees across teams to update our values so that they feel authentic, meaningful, and actionable.

How do these values shape the way employees collaborate and work together?

Strong values create a shared sense of purpose and alignment, helping employees connect with each other and the bigger picture. Research has shown that company values play a crucial role in employee retention and engagement. In fact, one study found that 88% of workers who understood their company’s values felt more motivated, compared to just 54% of those who didn’t (Trello).

Our values serve as guiding principles that shape how we work together, collaborate across teams, and support each other in achieving our goals.

Can you share a specific example of a value in action at Frontify?

One of our core values is “We are Constructive”, which fosters a mindset that’s been key to our growth. It means being solution-focused, self-driven, and open to feedback. At Frontify, we don’t just talk about feedback, we actively build systems and habits to make it part of our daily culture.

A recent example is the feedback initiative we’ve launched in Lattice, which allows employees to easily request or offer feedback outside of annual performance and compensation reviews. It’s a small but powerful way we’re encouraging real-time conversations that foster trust and accountability. We’ve already seen teams leveraging this feature to turn feedback into forward momentum. 

How do these values support career growth and development within the company?

Our numbers speak for themselves—last year alone, 34% of our 300 employees achieved a promotion, either stepping into senior-level roles or taking on new job titles.

We have clear benchmarking in place, allowing us to track career progression from day one. We give employees the tools to create personalized growth paths and provide the right support to help them take the next steps. This approach ensures alignment between company-wide objectives and individual aspirations, creating an environment where personal and professional development go hand in hand. 

How does Frontify ensure these values are more than just words on a page?

Our values define who we are, and our competencies bring them to life. Values provide direction, while competencies enable action. Together, they shape how we work every day. By clearly defining what success looks like within each value, we ensure that they are embedded into our culture and influence everything from performance reviews to daily interactions.

What role do employees play in bringing the values to life?

Our values are not imposed from the top down—they are shaped by the incredible people who make up Frontify. We encourage everyone to be curious, open-minded, and adaptable, bringing their unique perspectives and experiences into the mix. Through regular employee surveys, onboarding check-ins, and open conversations with People Partners, we keep a close pulse on how our people are feeling and what they need. This ongoing feedback helps us evolve thoughtfully, staying aligned with the people who bring our values to life every day.
