What you’ll be doing...

At Verizon, we are building a world-class Tax organization. We have begun a comprehensive program to
streamline processes, enhance systems, realign the organization and add opportunities for personal
skill-building and professional growth. We’re finding new ways to add value and provide strategic
support. At Verizon, you can become a catalyst for change. This Federal Income Tax Sr. Manager
position offers opportunities to build your career, while growing your leadership and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in managing the overall federal partnership income tax compliance function, including

  • supervising an outsourcing engagement with a Big 4 accounting firm

  • Working with internal teams to assist in gathering data needed to prepare the partnership tax

  • returns, including trial balance data, audit adjustments, schedule M adjustments and other

  • related data.

  • Reviewing the design and function of the workpaper packages to ensure they are complete and

  • inclusive of data needed to review the tax returns and provide audit-ready support.

  • Reviewing the partnership forms and ensuring workpapers support the information presented

  • on the forms.

  • Serve as liaison between outsourcing team and internal customers to provide various reporting

  • information needed for tax accounting, K1 tiering for corporate partners, etc.

  • Responsible for properly reporting the taxable income from external and internal investments

  • and preparing the related M3 support

  • Maintain ownership tiering model used by various internal customers to support direct and

  • indirect ownership by both internal and external partners.

  • identify processes to automate and incorporate Alteryx workflows when possible.

  • Reviewing federal tax calculations and adjustments (non-fixed asset) for the entire income tax

  • lifecycle, including forecasts, tax provision, tax return, return to provision, cumulative deferred

  • proof and audit support.

  • Reviewing federal tax calculations and adjustments to consider their financial statement impact

  • under ASC 740 when applicable, such as the deferred tax balance included on the financial

  • statements.

  • Reviewing federal book to tax adjustments to consider the proper classification and

  • presentation on the federal tax return.

  • Review complex state partnership and corporate income tax returns and associated workpapers

  • Analysis, calculations and support for a wide range of federal tax positions, including pension

  • and benefits adjustments, Section 163(j) and CAMT.

  • Coordinating with other Senior Managers and Associate Directors as necessary to ensure the

  • accuracy and efficiency of all federal tax processes

  • Research and analyze a wide range of federal tax positions; prepare memorandums to ensure

  • proper documentation is maintained to adequately substantiate and support tax positions upon

  • audit.

  • Provide support and develop and maintain positive relationships with other tax department

  • professionals

  • Developing and maintaining relationships with various teams throughout Verizon including, but

  • not limited to, Tax Policy, Treasury and FP&amp;A in order to gain compliance, accounting and

  • reporting efficiencies.

  • Liaising with the tax planning team to identify and implement tax planning strategies to

  • minimize cash taxes and the effective tax rate.

  • Providing support to the audit groups upon request.

  • Providing support for the quarterly and year-end tax provision processes

  • Streamlining and optimizing tax processes through the use of various digital finance tools,

  • including Alteryx, Qlik and other technologies.

What we’re looking for…


You’ll need to have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related field or four or more years of work experience.

  • Six or more years of relevant experience required, demonstrated through one or a combination of work and/or military experience, or specialized training.

  • Experience with OneSource Income Tax and/or OneSource Tax Provision

  • Effective time management, multitasking and prioritization skills with the ability to be a dynamic

  • Team player

Even better if you have one or more of the following:

  • A CPA, Masters of Tax or Masters of Accounting.

  • Experience with OneSource Apportionment

  • Solid data management and automation skills required; experience with Alteryx or Qlik is a

  • significant plus.

  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills with proven ability to work with individuals at all levels

  • in a team environment.

  • Ability to independently challenge, when needed, while at the same time being supportive and

  • solution-based.

  • An ability to navigate and negotiate through conflicting demands to maintain focus on priority

  • objectives while ensuring key stakeholders’ needs are met.

  • Ability to lead groups, build consensus, and communicate effectively with all levels of personnel

  • within and outside the organization.

  • Strong team leadership, communication, interpersonal and management skills with an executive

  • presence and ability to build relationships with stakeholders in peer/influence models.

Where you’ll be working

In this hybrid role, you'll have a defined work location that includes work from home and a minimum eight assigned office days per month that will be set by your manager.
