What you’ll be doing...
The Sr. Director of Data Engineering is responsible for leading and managing the data engineering team for network data products. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of data engineering principles and best practices, as well as experience interfacing large-scale data sets with AI/ML models. The Sr. Director will be responsible for developing and implementing data engineering solutions that meet the needs of the business, as well as for managing the team of data engineers who will be responsible for implementing and maintaining these solutions.
In this role you will be working in AI&D for the Vice President of Network. You will lead a team to create the Artificial Intelligence & Data solutions roadmap for Network teams, as well as implement and deliver use cases collaborating across VGS Technology. This leader will partner with, and leverage, the strength of our internal AI Center, Data Engineering & Industrialization, Data Governance & Architecture teams as well as vendors.
This includes working closely with a cross-functional team of data scientists, data engineers, architects, and software developers to develop and deliver substantial business value through the creation of data products and AI/ML. This includes managing a pipeline of data engineering and AI use cases from ideation to implementation as well as stakeholdering, executive presentations, & storytelling.
Your responsibilities will include:
Be a visionary and define, chart and steer a course that will deliver high quality, reliable and timely data products which will be leveraged by various Business Intelligence and AI/ML models to create amazing customer experience and improve the ability for Verizon to grow.
Build success through a strong cross organizational collaboration within AI&D and within the wider Global Network Technology and Global Technology Solutions organizations.
Lead and manage the data engineering organization which will build network data products. Data products will be purpose built to meet specific business needs but will be generic such that they can serve new / additional use cases across the wider enterprise.
Interface the network data products in an optimized fashion with the wide range of AI/ML models that will deliver results for automated chat, image recognition, anomaly detection, and more. You will be responsible for understanding the core AI/ML modeling technologies and how to guild your organization to optimal pipeline utilization and performance.
Develop your team by staying up-to-date on the latest data engineering trends & technologies and foster an environment of continuous learning and improvement.
What we’re looking for..
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field. A Master's degree is preferred.
Eight or more years of experience in software / data engineering, with a focus on network data products.
Strong understanding of data engineering principles and best practices.
Experience working with large-scale data sets and with building data products – Including Cataloging, Metadata, Observability, Data Quality, security and global accessibility
Proven ability to lead high value business deliverables leveraging a mixture of global resources and cross organizational talent.
Strong communication skills and the ability to foster cross organizational alignment to deliver against organizational and corporate goals.
Understanding of AI/ML process and technologies – Including Batch/Real-time, Feature Stores and modeling techniques like Large Language Models, Neural Networks, Regression, etc.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with cloud-based data engineering platforms such as GCP
Experience with big data platforms such as Cloudera/Hortonworks Hadoop and Kubernetes.
Strong foundations in network technologies including Radio Access, Backhaul and Core network as well as the Planning, Engineering and Operational functions associated with operating the world’s best 5G network.
A strong working relationship with Network Systems and understanding of the OSS stack of systems that support the Plan, Build and Run aspects of the network.
Knowledge of machine learning and artificial intelligence techniques.
Where you’ll be working
In this hybrid role, you'll have a defined work location that includes work from home and a minimum eight assigned office days per month that will be set by your manager.
