When you join Verizon

You want more out of a career. A place to share your ideas freely — even if they’re daring or different. Where the true you can learn, grow, and thrive. At Verizon, we power and empower how people live, work and play by connecting them to what brings them joy. We do what we love — driving innovation, creativity, and impact in the world. Our V Team is a community of people who anticipate, lead, and believe that listening is where learning begins. In crisis and in celebration, we come together — lifting our communities and building trust in how we show up, everywhere & always. Want in? Join the V Team Life.

The Verizon Business Group (VBG) is Verizon’s B2B division. It generates roughly $30B in revenue and serves customers across four go-to-market units: Global Enterprise, Small and Medium Business, Public Sector, and Wholesale.

Senior Directors of Business Strategy are responsible for developing near— and long-term strategies that give Verizon Business Group a sustainable competitive advantage, drive profitable growth, and increase shareholder value.

This position will focus on Product Strategy across VBG’s go-to-market customer units, working closely with the Chief Product Officer and the respective go-to-market Presidents.

Specific responsibilities and capabilities Include:

  • Identifying white spaces and growth areas that Verizon Business should play in from a product perspective, based on our core competency and assets

  • A framework for providing investment recommendations across the product portfolio – prioritization, harvest, and rationalization

  • A strong command of the build-buy-partner framework

  • An ability to lead cross-functional teams to develop strategies and business cases with an emphasis on ideation, financial modeling, competitive analysis, and execution

  • Lead research/consulting engagements to develop and articulate perspectives on topics and provide thought leadership

  • Provide recommendations to senior management and business leaders based on emerging trends, expansion opportunities, competitive threats, the viability of outside business partners, and internal business process improvement

  • Serve as the critical resource and subject matter expert in the discovery, evaluation, and selection of growth businesses, partnering with the M&A team to inform inorganic strategy and complete required due diligence.

  • Navigate a complex organizational structure and continuously bring forward an outside-in view that challenges internal thinking and provides objective views of opportunities and risks.

  • Apply data-based analytical thinking to understand and respond to external marketplace trends

  • Lead a high-performing, motivated team and drive best-in-class project management and operational support

  • Cultivate and promote a highly collaborative environment; assist in the career development of others, actively mentoring individuals and teams

The position will require in-depth knowledge of VBG’s product portfolios and broad knowledge of each customer segment. The successful candidate should be professionally polished, have sound business acumen, a breadth of quantitative and analytical skills, and excellent communication skills. The candidate will have the maturity and confidence to interface with all levels within the company and a humble, self-aware personal style that enables them to lead cross-functional teams to gain consensus around strategic solutions. S/he will have a demonstrable track record of achieving results and deep experience collaborating with diverse stakeholders to get results across multiple groups and disciplines. To succeed in the role, the candidate needs to be highly comfortable working in ambiguous environments, be extremely curious, have high energy, and be fearless about taking initiative. A self-starter, natural leader, creative and innovative thinker, and passionate about excellence.

You’ll need to have:

  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Business, Finance, Economics, Computer Engineering/Science, and/or equivalent work experience

  • 10 years of corporate strategy, strategy consulting, product development, equity research, investment banking at a leading company

  • Minimum of 6 years of experience working with enterprise or business clients.

  • Proven success influencing product vision and strategy

  • General understanding of the telecommunications industry and its products/services

  • Extensive management experience and a proven record of meeting deadlines, managing multiple complex projects simultaneously, and working in a fast-paced, dynamic, individual, and team-oriented work environment.

  • Demonstrated experience applying strategic thinking, leadership, and direction of cross-functional teams to complete strategic financial objectives.

  • Motivated, self-starter, and highly collaborative, able to produce high-quality results in high-pressure situations in a dynamic environment.

  • Exceptional leadership, interpersonal, relationship development, analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
