Job Description

When you join Verizon

You want more out of a career. A place to share your ideas freely — even if they’re daring or different. Where the true you can learn, grow, and thrive. At Verizon, we power and empower how people live, work and play by connecting them to what brings them joy. We do what we love — driving innovation, creativity, and impact in the world. Our V Team is a community of people who anticipate, lead, and believe that listening is where learning begins. In crisis and in celebration, we come together — lifting our communities and building trust in how we show up, everywhere & always. Want in? Join the V Team Life.

VGI is looking for a highly skilled Network & Security technical background engineer to lead our global tactical design and implementation organization for the Security Infrastructure. You will lead a team of senior network engineers and technologists re-defining and managing a large deployment of platforms supporting the VGI Global Network. Under your direction, manage the security platforms, and provide strategic leadership and guidance for the stated architectures, implementation, integration, maintenance, and overall enhancements. You’ll have a pivotal role leading a center of excellence in security supporting the GTS CIOs portfolios, CISO and key stakeholders seeking measurable outcomes for Verizon.

What you’ll be doing…

  • Planning, defining budgets and enabling Northstar blueprints for GTS/VGI while maintaining advanced technical knowledge, understanding trends and aligning relative information for the network security architecture.
  • Building end-of-service and maintenance forecasts to plan technology refresh cycles and ongoing software compliance for cyber health and security.
  • Building security controls with firewalls, intrusion detection systems and antivirus proxy platforms to protect the network. Align user restrictions for access with strong authentication multi-factor platforms such as DUO.
  • Building Virtual Private Networks (VPNs) for employees and businesses to establish secure and encrypted connections for remote user access to GTS that are transmitted over the “public networks”
  • Deploying DNS digitally signed records to allow the response of clients to verify the authenticity of the records. Utilizing secure communications protocols over TLS or HTTPS to encrypt queries and protect from interception.
  • Running DNS instances, maintaining the operating system with security patches and end-of-service lifecycle management.
  • Building NetScaler appliances and configuring virtual servers, load-balancing policies and security features to integrate backend servers that protect the applications.
  • Integrating future network security solutions leveraging cloud-based frameworks such as Secure System Edge(SSE), CASB, Web, DLP and future ZTNA protection policies and services.
  • Developing overall implementation schedules, progression metrics and timelines leveraging tools like Smartsheets to measure program success, engineering capacity, and clear unexpected roadblocks.
  • Co-developing and leading multi-year product roadmaps driving the evolution and continuous improvements of the ecosystem across multiple platforms and technology stacks enhancing the security infrastructure.
  • Ongoing partnerships with the CISO organization sharing data, sharing strong critical thinking, and paying attention to details and protecting sensitive information to dynamic operating environments.
  • Engaging early in strategic programs to define solutions and designs well ahead of implementations and being production-ready.
  • Assessing operational efficiencies sharing data that are exchanged with cyber threat Security Information Management Systems (SIEM) as an example for event logging, trending and analysis of protection against threat actors and data leakage. Define standards, adhere to policy guidelines, refine processes, and translate high-level architectures into clear implementation plans for network engineers to consume and support.
  • Supporting the Architecture and Planning organization in lab testing and conducting proof of concepts and learning from these events to scale across the business.
  • Partnering with key suppliers and industry engagements to identify technologies and applicable use cases for the Verizon ecosystem.
  • Partnering with security cloud engineering team(s) on platforms and programs used by cloud providers AWS, Google, Azure and Oracle.
  • Ensuring ongoing operations work seamlessly through network maintenance and configurations utilizing platform protocols, policies, and proxies to identify malware and virus scanners to protect the security infrastructure.
