What you will be doing…

The primary responsibility of the Power/Space/HVAC Capacity Planner is for the short and long term network equipment growth viability of technical buildings. The 3 major functional areas of responsibility include: Power, Space, and Cooling capacity planning and management. This includes the Capacity Planning of critical AC and DC Power, Emergency back-up systems, Space and large scale data-center Cooling systems ahead of strategic company programs.

This person should exhibit the ability to work independently on a range of projects from inception to completion, manage internal and external resources effectively, establish and maintain processes and procedures, prioritize workload based on business objectives and take on special projects in support of the management of the organization.

  • Planning and designing short and long term equipment layouts of a technical facility based on Verizon’s Standards.

  • Designing space utilizing AutoCAD for the long term viability of the building, these layouts will be provided to internal customers.

  • Managing capacity of DC Power plants, generators, and HVAC systems in the technical buildings.

  • Calculating cooling and power requirements from equipment growth projects or forecasts to determine when capacity of equipment is under-utilized, near capacity or will push it to exceeding thresholds.

  • Analyzing of both AC and DC electrical elements including rectifiers, batteries, BDFBs/PDFs, and generators.

  • Assigning appropriate fusing for network elements.

  • Calculating and analyzing equipment cooling requirements ensuring that equipment in technical buildings is kept cool enough to function properly.

  • Determining appropriate cooling distribution requirements to ensure cool air is directed to the network equipment.

  • Formulating a plan to increase capacity and direct the Project Engineer organization via a formal hand-off to build the facility in accordance with the specified requirements.

  • Supporting internal and external organizations with cost savings initiatives.

  • Working with cross-functional teams, internal and external, to ensure the strategic planning, tactical execution and ongoing performance of all Power, Space and Cooling capacity efforts.

  • Reviewing scope and costs of potential projects with large capital expenditures while employing sound engineering judgment and utilizing strong financial acumen.

Location: Other valid Verizon Network Hub locations may be considered.

What we're looking for...

You'll need to have:

  • Bachelor’s degree or four or more years of work experience.

  • Four or more years of relevant work experience.

Even better if you have one or more of the following:

  • Bachelor’s in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Facility Management, or Construction Management.

  • Project Management certification.

  • Knowledge of the following systems: COEP/PIMS, WFM, AutoCAD, Venue, MicroStation, CCP, Canvas, Clarity, vSAP GUI, ERP-SAP Portal.

  • Knowledge of the Telecommunications industry/equipment.

  • Knowledge of Central Office layout and design planning and engineering.

If you are hired into a California, Colorado, Connecticut, Hawaii, Maryland, Nevada, New York, Rhode Island, Washington or Washington, D.C. work location, the compensation range for this position is between $76,000.00 and $141,000.00 annually based on a full-time schedule. The salary will vary depending on your location and confirmed job-related skills and experience. This is an incentive based position with the potential to earn more. For part time roles, your compensation will be adjusted to reflect your hours.
