Verizon seeks a qualified Counsel to join the legal team supporting open source activities, including supporting the Open Source Program Office within the Global Technology Services organization, part of Verizon Global Services. This position will report to the Managing Associate General Counsel for AI and Open Source. In this role, you will advise on the full scope of issues relating to open source compliance for the entire enterprise, including in supplier contracts, internal use, product reviews, and ongoing compliance obligations.
What you’ll be doing...
Providing support to the Open Source Program Office by helping to advance compliant, secure, and viable use of open source across Verizon.
Supporting Verizon’s Sourcing, Third Party Risk Management, Engineering, and Product teams on issues related to open source procurement and usage, including review of acceptable licenses and complying with license obligations.
Conducting legal reviews and offering guidance on specific open source components used by Verizon internal teams and suppliers.
Creating and advising on contract terms related to open source usage and participating in negotiations with suppliers and customers on open source obligations.
Advising on software and data licensing requirements and risk for open source software components and AI models.
What we’re looking for...
You’ll need to have:
Bachelor's degree or four or more years of work experience.
Law degree from an accredited top Indian law school.
Experience as a practicing attorney in a large law firm supporting corporate clients or in multinational corporations or large Indian IT and technology firms.
Strong interpersonal relationship skills and a demonstrated ability to multitask.
Experience in commercial contracting, open source licensing, software licensing, AI model licensing, and related compliance activities.
Familiarity with common open source licenses, their interpretation and application in commercial settings, as well as their compliance requirements.
Even better if you have one or more of the following:
Experience with software and hardware bills of materials.
Experience with vendor management and oversight.
Experience developing open source policies and standards.
Excellent communication skill and academic performance.
