What you'll be doing...
The position will be a direct report to the Associate Director- Tax. The Sales Tax Consultant is part of the Indirect Tax (Transaction Tax) Team. This position is responsible for working with 3rd party Tax Outsourcer to ensure accurate and timely filing of State and Local Sales & Use, Gross Receipts, State & Local Excise, PUC Levies, E911, and USF returns. We are committed to providing the highest levels of compliance and you will support our efforts by ensuring the accurate and timely filing of state and local tax returns for our regulated and non-regulated companies. You will also perform a variety of other activities including data analysis, journal entries, account reconciliations, issue resolution, and more. Your work will have a direct impact on our reported financial results and ensure compliance with internal controls and external legislation.
Responsibilities:
Leading complex Tax projects.
Ensuring the accurate compilation, analysis, and reporting of financial data.
Identifying and driving the implementation of process improvement opportunities for Tax, working closely with internal teams or service providers.
Handling notice resolution.
Leading the company’s efforts to comply with the requirements of Sarbanes Oxley while ensuring compliance and adherence with controls for internal policies.
Managing Use Tax processes.
Review use tax to ensure accurate taxability, prepare journal entries for Use tax reversals, and manage the reconciliation.
Reconcile large data sets using Excel, Excel Power Query, and Alteryx.
Responsible for reconciling tax liability accounts.
Required to implement process improvements through the use of innovation; and creative thinking.
Ensure that filings are accurately and timely filed in accordance with applicable laws, regulations, judicial decisions, and rulings.
Prepare payments, manage liabilities and expenses related to the tax returns; work with AP, Treasury, and various in-house payment systems.
Assist with analysis related to mergers and acquisitions (including due diligence), Reconciliations, Budgets, Metrics, Cash Forecasting, and other monthly reports.
Assist with all related audits, billing inquiries, and resolve notices.
Research as needed to comply with legislative changes and implement best compliance practices.
Focus on identifying process improvements and streamlining existing procedures.
What we're looking for...
You'll need to have:
Bachelor’s Degree in Finance or Accounting or three or more years of work experience.
Three or more years of relevant work experience in Tax, Finance, or equivalent.
Advanced computer skills (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Power Query, and Vertex).
Ability to prioritize deliverables with competing timelines and accurately manage deadlines.
Solid oral, written, and analytical skills.
Even better if you have one or more of the following:
Experience with tax research, tax accounting, SOX processes, telecommunication taxes, and tax-saving strategies.
Proficient with large volume data analysis needed for preparing and filing tax returns (i.e.: knowledge of billing systems, etc.).
Previous exposure to PeopleSoft or SAP (or other major General Ledger Suite Software) is a plus.
Working knowledge of automation tools (i.e. Alteryx, Qlik) and technical skills is a plus.
Experience in assisting with special projects.
Ability to work equally well both independently and while working within a team.

In this hybrid role, you'll have a defined work location that includes work from home and a minimum eight assigned office days per month that will be set by your manager.
