What you’ll be doing...

As a Senior Manager of Strategic Category Intelligence within the Supply Chain Organization, you will play a critical role in driving procurement excellence by delivering in-depth analysis of major procurement categories across Verizon. You will collaborate closely with the Strategic Sourcing, VSIL, to establish industry standards and processes that foster a competitive landscape for vendor proposals, streamline cost structures, and enhance vendor performance. Your contributions will directly impact GN&T’s ability to optimize contract value and vendor relationships. Your financial and technical expertise will serve as a foundation for cross-functional teams, enabling them to operate with efficiency and fiscal responsibility. This role is key to maintaining Verizon’s position as a world-class sourcing organization. You will be instrumental in supporting initiatives that reinforce the company’s ability to remain competitive in the market through data-driven insights and strategic sourcing practices.

We’re looking for someone who can use data to craft strategy and solutions presenting insights to our key partners. You will manage large and complex programs from end to end with an emphasis on cost, quality, optimization, rationalization and engineering. With your analytical, big data and reporting expertise, you’ll provide the information that will guide strategy and decision making across our business. The successful candidate will need to have strong business acumen and the ability to work within aggressive timelines while demonstrating out-of-the-box thinking. The ability to work collaboratively and to diplomatically challenge the status quo to achieve the business targets is critical. In addition, you will need to develop a deep understanding of the business and customer needs in order to manage a balance between strategic and tactical activities.

  • Performing advanced analytics, data modeling, and data mining to develop insights that drive business decisions.

  • Identifying efficiencies, developing, and implementing solutions that reduce costs, support business initiatives, and improve the customer experience.

  • Supporting and managing supplier relationships, ensuring positive interactions while delivering superior service to internal partners.

  • Collaborating with Strategic Sourcing to integrate large-scale cost-saving initiatives across teams, driving enterprise-wide results.

  • Optimizing supplier contracts by managing key factors like inventories and lead times to balance total cost-to-serve.

  • Working with key business partners to create strategic category strategies that align with business plans and major initiatives.

  • Partnering with technology teams to understand market dynamics and technological changes that impact procurement categories.

  • Building and maintaining strategic intelligence and data points for key product and service categories through supply market analysis.

  • Developing and enhancing category management capabilities that maximize value and foster strong relationships with both business partners and suppliers.

What we’re looking for...

You believe that proven data should be behind every important decision. You are a numbers person but you also have a strategic approach. You bring both a business perspective and an understanding of the marketplace—and not just theory and numbers. You have a knack for understanding and visualizing just the right way to share data and practical insights so that people can understand. People trust you based upon your thoughtful and detailed analyses.

You’ll need to have:

  • Six or more years of relevant experience required, demonstrated through one or a combination of work and/or military experience, or specialized training.

  • Experience analyzing complex data, preparing reports, and presenting findings to multiple partners.

Even better if you have one or more of the following:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Math, Physics, Computer Science, and Engineering.

  • Master’s degree in a quantitative field. Ideally, an MBA.

  • Balanced the needs of multiple partners.

  • Product development or analytics experience in the technology sector.

  • SQL, SQL, Editor for Oracle experience.

  • Hadoop and Map/Reduce experience.

  • Familiarity with data visualization software. Ideally, COGNOS or Tableau.

  • Working knowledge of scripting languages. Ideally, Python or Perl.

  • Business Intelligence Certification (CPBI).

If Verizon and this role sound like a fit for you, we encourage you to apply even if you don’t meet every “even better” qualification listed above.
