Student (d/f/m) for Bachelor Thesis: Optimization of Fuselage panels (Open)

Your location

You will be working at the largest production site for civil aircraft situated in Hamburg. Its location on the southern banks of the river Elbe includes the option to commute by ferry.

Your tasks and responsibilities

You will be working within a current Airbus Airframe development project. Your contribution to this topic will include the following tasks:

  • Capability to perform Preliminary and detailed structural analysis and design with composite materials
  • Perform preliminary Concept Design study for Fuselage panel justification using relevant 3D CAD (Catia V5) tools.
  • Perform classical stress analysis and Finite finite element analysis (FEA) for structural components using desired tools and methods (Hyperworks/Nastran/Patran/Abaqus)
  • Perform trade studies for weight savings, part producibility and document the design & analyses results.
  • Compare results of FEM/GFEM and Trade-off analysis for different design solutions and concepts.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams and with stakeholders including suppliers, customers, airframers, regulatory bodies, and industrial organizations.
  • Preparation of analysis reports and Comprehensive documentation of your findings
  • Communicate effectively within the team and with other departments within Airbus


Desired skills and qualifications

  • Enrolled full-time student in the area of Aerospace engineering or an equivalent field of study.
  • First practical experience in the field of structural Design and Analysis is desirable.
  • Fluent in German and English.
  • Working knowledge with CatiaV5, 3D experience, and FEM tools such as Hyperworks/Nastran/Patran/Abaqus tools and methods.
  • Ability to learn and use ISAMI/FEM tools as needed and working in a Windows OS/Google WS environment.
  • Experience / knowledge or strong interest in the architectural design of lightweight structure components.
