This is your chance to dive into the world of state-of-the-art technologies in connectivity and situational awareness solutions. You will be working with a number of Airbus’ ongoing and planned research and technology projects in the defence and security segment.

In this role, you will support the Strategic Marketing and Technologies team in the industrial research and experimental development activities in our current projects, as well as studies and proposal preparation related to potential new opportunities. In the role, you will have a chance to participate in defining the future connectivity and situational awareness solutions that meet the stringent requirements of our customer base in their demanding operational environment. In terms of technology, Airbus researches topics like 5G/6G critical communications and leveraging Earth Observation data and satellite communications in mission-critical, business-critical, and defence applications.

Your typical working days may include clarifying use cases and requirements of our user community, analyzing performance of satellite systems versus these requirements, as well as carrying out field measurements, demos, and building applicable simulations.

You will be working with key stakeholders in Airbus’ research and technology ecosystem. The team works on regular basis with

  • Industry, research institutes and universities involved in our ongoing research projects

  • Public Safety and Defence customers and partners

  • Technological experts at across business units at Airbus

The duration of this traineeship is six months and it will start as agreed in March or April. The position is full-time during the summer months 2025 and part-time during other times. Continuing the traineeship might be possible even after this as our projects typically last 2-3 years. Writing your thesis can also be possible in this role.

Who do we see working in this trainee position?

We are looking for a university student with an applicable technology-oriented background. Ideally, you are currently pursuing a degree in engineering, business or something equivalent. A basic understanding of communications technology and an appetite for delving into new technology areas is a great starting point for succeeding in this role. Importantly, you are capable of writing technically oriented documents and confidently presenting them in relevant industry and research circles to both national and international audiences.
