About us:
Airbus offers the unique opportunity that enables you to learn and work alongside payload equipment specialists within the Airbus Defence and Space Payload Product Engineering Delivery Team.
The Payload Product Engineering Delivery team is a multidisciplinary team with payload design managers, technical data management and equipment specialists. The Equipment Specialists are responsible to provide engineering support for equipment being used on telecommunications satellites in Space. The equipment range, depending on the mission, generally will feature low noise amplifiers, filters, high power amplifiers. The equipment are designed to withstand the environmental conditions observed on a rocket during launch and also the challenging thermal environment in space.
We have the responsibility for the technical performance of hardware sourced from suppliers all over the world. From the initial bid phase through to successful delivery the team are responsible for equipment specification, qualification and successful completion of major design reviews in front of the end customer for the satellite. With a 15 year life and the GEO Stationary Satellite being 36,000km from Earth, we have to demonstrate to our customers every aspect of the design and performance will meet their needs before launch.
Telecommunication payloads are highly complex providing critical services globally to many end users. As part of the Airbus team focused on the equipment you have an opportunity to learn and contribute to payloads that are currently in production in Portsmouth. We are a team that works closely with all areas of the business from the end customer, procurement, suppliers, specialist engineers and project teams. Whether you work on our latest flexible payload ‘ONESAT’ or a very large geostationary payload you will be part of a dedicated community of Engineers and support staff.
What you will be doing:
You will support the product delivery team by working with our equipment specialist engineers, this can include following equipment specifications, associated supplier statements of compliance and managing documentation reviews for the technical documents. It is a great opportunity to learn about the challenges faced by equipment being used in space.
Requirements:
Our placements are open to Undergraduates only. Therefore it is mandatory for candidates to be an undergraduate for the whole duration of the placement. Please inform your graduation date on your application.

Successful candidates will be able to demonstrate the following:
- Studying towards a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics;
- Have an interest in space technologies;
- The ability to listen, understand and communicate information;

- Interest in finding creative solutions to complex problems;
- Able to make decisions based on evidence;

SECURITY CLEARANCE: Eligibility to gain UK SC Security Clearance OR You will be subject to a BPSS check (including a criminal record check).
