At NAVBLUE we formed our software development teams around a matrixed organization where team members belong to a chapter, in which their skills, competencies and standards are solidified and grown. They are also members of a Squad where they utilize those skills and competencies to support the squad to be a self-sustaining team able to build and release quality software. Squads belong to a Tribe, which coordinates and ensures the squad’s focus and output are aligned to support services and solutions for a product or vertical.
To provide direction oversight of our solutions and services the Software Factory has a built out Architecture team. This worldwide team has a mission to:
Prepare themselves and our teams with the skills and knowledge needed to support and accelerate squads.
Coordinate and collaborate with stakeholders to define and evolve our standards and common solutions.
Stabilize and accelerate squads efforts by temporarily working within a squad as an implementer.
Champion our NAVBLUE principles to empower our squads to build solutions with best practices and standards.
The Architecture Manager leads the Architecture team on their competencies, driving initiatives to reach team goals, and supporting teams needs to set architecture decisions and review squad designs. They are in charge of defining the architecture strategy.
The Team Lead, Architecture provides people management support for the Architecture Team. This includes the responsibility for career development towards the organization’s needs and helping the team on their journey to mastery of their disciplines. This is done by the coordination of training with, peers, mentors, various other tools such as books, videos, conferences, or other training that is available. The Team Lead also provides performance reviews, focusing not just on the technical skills of employees, but all aspects including interactions, company goals, processes, and soft skills (such as decision making, written or verbal communication, and presentations).
The jobholder will bring extensive experience in designing and deploying software solutions to NAVBLUE projects. In this role the jobholder will work directly with clients, system integrators, Product Directors and the development teams to identify and elaborate solution requirements, then turn those requirements into a detailed, implementable architecture and work with the Tribe Leads to deliver the solution.
In addition, development skills will be needed to properly understand all NAVBLUE platforms and participate in a cross-functional team to ensure software architectural standards are applied uniformly across the organization.
Responsibilities:
People management (7-10 based in North America, Europe and supported by Airbus India)
Define the Software Architecture strategy ,
Strong knowledge of several stacks used in the organization.
Can use KPI’s to help create and execute a plan to strengthen the organization
Coaching high performing team members to bring Architecture skills to the team
Setting technical direction via various tools like Architecture Decision Records and a Target State document
Identify the appropriate software architecture based on the requirements and design elements contained in a system specification
Work closely with Product Management and/or clients to ensure requirements are sufficiently elaborated and clearly understood and aligned with all parties.
Ensuring the team maintains and evolve software architecture documents based on evolving system requirements and industry trends and technologies
Analyze risk and report problems in meeting system requirements
Coordinate and liaise with Software Developers to support the creation of a system specification and software design specifications
Communicate the architecture to project stakeholders
Participate in the system specification review process to ensure system requirements can be translated into valid software architecture
Comply with all applicable product development processes.
Overseeing team members to perform detailed software design as well as implements and/or maintains code according to duties and responsibilities
Ensure the team is ensuring the overall integrity of the solution architecture and validate it against the system specification
Building a team which can develop complex, highly performant, scalable and reliable software systems (this position requires oversight of hands-on development)
Understanding of cloud-native design principles and best practices
Building highly-available and secure API based services
Proactively identifying architectural weaknesses and recommending appropriate solutions, performing functional and code reviews in related areas
Grasping the business requirements and designing the architecture
Experience:
More than 10 years design experience in a dynamic development environment
Experience in Agile Software Development methods
Functional experience with Flight Operations solutions is an asset
Experience developing under external industry standards or certifications
Experience working directly with customers in service/consulting engagements
Knowledge, Skills, Demonstrated Capabilities & Competencies:
Strong leadership and communication skills
Strong ability to plan, organize, and lead initiatives
Strong knowledge of DevOps culture and principles
Excellent organizational and time management skills
Knowledge of SAFe Agile
Ability to Coach and Mentor the team
Ability to multi-task, set priorities for the team
Understands KPI and how they fit into organization goals
Must work effectively with others in a team environment
You are self-motivated and able to learn quickly
Able to effectively communicate, verbally and written highly technical aspects of architecture and integration to management, clients and staff at all levels
Technical Systems Proficiency:
Various backend and frontend technologies
Strong knowledge of AWS (Lambda, Fargate, IoT, Aurora, SQS, API Gateway, S3, EFS, FSx)
Strong knowledge in at least one language C++, C#, Java
Strong Ability to digest and apply and demonstrate new technologies
Understanding of solutions hosted via VMs vs Docker/Kubernetes on prem/in cloud.
Knowledge of other Cloud platforms such as GCP and Azure a plus
