Fully flexible hours
We're changing communication to be open for anyone to connect with everyone.
Element is a Matrix-based, end-to-end encrypted messenger and collaboration app. It’s decentralised so that users can be digitally sovereign (own and control their own data). Element can be self-hosted, or through a hosting service such as Element Matrix Services. Element operates on the open Matrix network to provide interoperability between other messenger and collaboration apps.
Flexible working approach
Since the beginning of Element, we've been passionate about building a flexible workplace. Our general approach is to treat people like adults and acknowledge that by being flexible, we create an environment for people to do their best work. We're a family friendly environment – many of our team have small children and we look to accommodate them as best we can.
We have dog friendly offices in London and Rennes, but it is not a requirement to be in the office. Many of our employees work remotely and come and go to the offices as they please (if they leave near one!) We also offer a monthly coworking allowance for those who aren't near an office but like a change of scenery! We also offer meaningful equity options, private healthcare for you and your family, and a generous holiday allowance of 40 Days per year (including public holidays).
Scoring against our flexibility index (1 = not at all flexible, 100 = couldn’t be more flexible, 51 is average) using a number of parameters to assess flexibility such as working from home, hours, frequency of travel, benefits, etc.
Scoring against our employee perception index (1 = not seen as flexible, 100 = couldn’t be happier with the flexibility, 51 is average) using a number of more emotional / perception based questions to understand whether employees feel supported and offered what they want. The areas we cover are work-life balance / managerial support / flexible benefits / working environment / and many others.
"Element is 100% one of the most flexible companies I've ever worked for, and it makes a big difference. I've had recruiters offer me salaries that are £60k higher, and it's still not enough to make me want to leave this lovely place. Founders make a BIG DEAL about flexible working. In fact, they have apologised company wide for sending emails a bit late or a bit early. And they've made it VERY CLEAR that this is because they take their children to school or take time out, and the rest of us aren't supposed to feel pressured by that. It's just a lovely environment all round and I feel very lucky!"

What do we think of Element?
Element has a very flexible working environment, achieving one of the highest scores for our employer benchmarking test that we've ever seen. To create such an environment with 100+ employees is no easy feat, and it's a credit to the commitment the company makes in fostering such a brilliant internal working environment.
Meet who might be hiring you
Element (and Matrix) are born out of the desire to change the status quo. The night before we created Element, we mapped out the sort of company we wanted to build: one based on fun, experimentation, a desire to change the world and to have the freedom to find a good work-life balance. That has been our motto ever since, and we’re constantly adapting to ensure this is the reality.
