Flexible working approach
At Attest, we believe the best products are built by teams that mirror the diversity we see in the world, and in our customers and audiences. We can’t build a product for everyone, if our team doesn’t represent everyone.
Our welcoming and collaborative culture is made up of people with a range of backgrounds and experiences, every one of whom is a culture ‘add’ not a culture ‘fit’.
Part of creating an environment in which every person no matter who they are feels a sense of belonging, and fully included in how we operate as we go on this ambitious journey together, is ensuring that environment is flexible enough to suit different needs and preferences, while also providing a clear and cohesive approach to how we work that keeps us running in the same direction toward our mission together, as a team.
We do this in two ways: 1. we openly talk about being an ‘in-person’ first company, where we believe that spending some amount of time together in our awesome offices in LDN and NYC regularly is on the whole additive to our culture, team performance, individual and team happiness, and our ability to run in the same direction at great velocity, while having fun; and 2. we simultaneously go to great lengths to communicate, role model, and hold consistent across all teams a huge amount of flexibility and autonomy over how and when people complete their work, communicate with others, make themselves available, etc.
Encouraging some in person time together, applied flexibly and as people see fit, allows for greater cohesion because we firmly believe trust is imperative to moving at the pace we do, solving the challenging problems we work on and that trust is built through a combination of time + proximity, both of which are shown to be accelerated in person (or where all of a team is fully remote, always) vs in a hybrid remote+in person team. Ensuring we do this in a way that doesn’t remove the deep flexibility or autonomy that people enjoy about being remote is critical to building a high-performing, happy, engaged, and deeply productive team.
Practically, that means a few things, including (but not limited to):
Equity scheme for all employees operated through a fair and consistent multiplier scheme
Awesome office to work from in LDN and NYC, yet most people aren’t in more than 2-3 days per week on average so we don’t have fixed desks and instead operate a flexible booking system that represents that flexibility. How often or whether people actually come in is completely up to them and their team to organise and decide.
International mobility scheme that enables people to move to another country temporarily or permanently while continuing in their role, which can be utilised by application through our People team.
True flexible working hours for everyone, no justification required, not limited to senior people. What we do in a startup is undeniably hard much of the time, and requires deep commitment to the mission from every person, and we believe that hard work is best accomplished when people choose how and when they work best. Whether you’re a night owl, a morning person, someone who likes going to cross-fit classes mid afternoon to avoid the crowds - everything is possible. We don’t keep score of presence, and we don’t chastise people for sending slack messages at 7am, or 7pm - yet we also don’t expect people to respond outside their normal working cadence (which we encourage people to write in their profile read-mes). No one person works the same way; everyone at Attest is an adult, and trusted by default to deliver their expected outputs on time and in line with their team’s expectations regardless of when they choose to complete their work or communicate their thoughts.
25 days holiday (23 in the US) (plus public holidays) plus 2 additional days off per year around the festive period
10 fully paid sick days per year (more if you need it; it’s a guideline, rather than strictly enforced). Mental health and physical health are treated equally at Attest and apply regardless of location. We make that explicit in our HR system, where you can choose whether to book sick leave, or mental health leave. Whether you’ve been knocked out with the flu, are having an operation, or need some time off to manage anxiety, stress or depression, for example, we encourage all our Attesters to rest up and come back when they’re feeling more like themselves, and go above and beyond to support with returning to work and managing in particular mental health challenges that impact your happiness at work.
In the UK, access to Sanctus professional coaching 2 days per month on a fully confidential basis (we don’t know who is booking Sanctus - we just set up the days). This is a benefit that is self-service bookable flexibility, and intended for both individual career development, and to promote taking care of our mental health.
In the UK, access to an Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) through CareFirst, providing self-service fully flexible access to a 24/7 counselling service by phone, access to debt and mortgage advice, and much more. Again, fully confidential and flexible.
Gender neutral enhanced parental leave for all UK employees from day oneThere is no qualifying length of service requirement to receive enhanced parental leave and pay; you are not disadvantaged in any way by joining us shortly before starting a family.
- Primary carers receive 18 weeks fully paid parental leave to prepare for the arrival of a child
- Secondary carers receive 4 weeks fully paid parental leave
- Leave is flexible and can be taken in flexible blocks of time, subject to mandatory leave periods imposed by law
“10% charitable community time” for all Attesters - this is paid leave in addition to other paid holiday days and public holidays that is equivalent to 10% of someones usual working time that can be taken flexibly to invest in charitable activities, or activities that give back to or further the community around us. For someone working full-time, this is roughly equivalent to 2 days per month.
A Dog Friendly office, with dog beds, toys, and free roaming dog friends to ensure you can comfortably come to the office with your dog without worrying about the additional cost of day care/dog walking, or leaving your furbaby at home for hours on end without you
Generous remote working setup budget in addition to your normal kit budget - no matter where you're working from, you should have the right set up for your work, your health, and your productivity.
Scoring against our flexibility index (1 = not at all flexible, 100 = couldn’t be more flexible, 51 is average) using a number of parameters to assess flexibility such as working from home, hours, frequency of travel, benefits, etc.

Scoring against our employee perception index (1 = not seen as flexible, 100 = couldn’t be happier with the flexibility, 51 is average) using a number of more emotional / perception based questions to understand whether employees feel supported and offered what they want.
