Job Description
About the role
What you’ll be doing
- Lead the end-to-end solution architecture for delivery (from discovery through to transition into build and run), maintaining the overall technical direction and accountability.
- Set and govern the architecture approach (principles, patterns, non‑functional requirements, integration, resilience and security controls) across all domains involved.
- Engage customers and BT stakeholders up to executive level to build confidence in BT’s technical approach and delivery capability, and to resolve complex trade-offs.
- Provide design authority and final technical assurance: direct, coordinate and assure the work of technical designers who produce HLD/LLD artefacts, ensuring alignment to the agreed architecture and outcomes.
- Identify, evaluate and manage technical risks across the end-to-end solution, including dependencies across towers/partners and non-standard components, and drive mitigations to closure.
- Own architecture governance: lead peer reviews and assurance forums, respond to actions, and ensure designs meet BT security, regulatory and operational requirements.
- Mentor and coach other solution architects and contribute to improving SOLA methods, patterns and customer-facing collateral.
Essential Skills / Experience
- Proven experience leading the end-to-end architecture and design of complex, large-scale technology solutions across multiple technical domains.
- Deep technical expertise across enterprise networking, security, cloud platforms and systems integration, with the ability to challenge assumptions and drive sound technical decisions.
- Strong background in evaluating architectural trade-offs and ensuring solutions are scalable, resilient, secure and aligned to customer and business requirements.
- Experience defining and governing solution architecture across internal teams, third-party partners and suppliers to ensure a coherent end-to-end outcome.
- Demonstrable knowledge of security, governance, risk and compliance frameworks, ensuring solutions meet regulatory, assurance and operational standards.
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to influence senior leaders and translate complex technical concepts into clear business outcomes.
- Proven ability to lead cross-functional technical teams through challenging programmes, managing dependencies, risks and technical decision-making.
- Experience working within large enterprise or service provider environments, delivering mission-critical infrastructure and transformation programmes.
Desirable Skills / Experience
- Knowledge of IT infrastructure technologies, including Microsoft operating systems, storage and virtualisation platforms.
- Experience working with converged and hyper-converged infrastructure solutions.
- Understanding of complex technical environments and multi-domain solution design.
- Ability to assess technical options and contribute to architectural decision-making.
- Experience supporting infrastructure transformation or modernisation programmes.
