Work from anywhere stories to inspire your next adventure
What’s it really like to work from anywhere? Find out from these people who’ve worked around the world.

Work from anywhere schemes have become one of the most searched-for benefits on Flexa. In 2025, 75% of candidates on Flexa actively searched for WFA when job-hunting, making it the most in-demand benefit we track.
The appeal is obvious: work stays the same, but the backdrop changes. You can spend a month with family who live abroad, explore somewhere new without burning through your annual leave, or work from a desk by the sea.
But theory and practice are different things, and the question most candidates ask isn't "does WFA exist?" — it's "what does it actually feel like to use it?"
We answer that question with first-hand WFA employee experiences from people at six different companies. You’ll find out what worked, what surprised them, how they stayed connected, and why they'd do it again.
If these stories inspire you, why not take a look at current WFA jobs or see which companies offer work from anywhere schemes.
Vodafone employees can work from anywhere
Vodafone is a British technology communications company that has a WFA scheme allowing people to work from anywhere for up to 20 days a year, dependent on the country.
"I’ve been fortunate to use this policy multiple times to get away to stay with family in the Netherlands. For me, it’s a great opportunity to get a change of scenery and explore somewhere new, whilst still connecting with my team and working when I need to.
I’m so grateful to work for a company that truly embodies flexible working and values the wellbeing of its people."

WFA for 20 days a year with Pod
Pod’s WFA policy allows employees to work from anywhere for up to 20 days a year.
“Working From Anywhere was one of the key benefits I looked for when I was considering my next role, and one of the reasons Pod stood out to me. I’d stayed with my previous employer partly because they offered the same flexibility, so I already knew how much I valued it.
I have family and strong connections outside the UK, and WFA lets me spend proper time with the people who matter to me without every visit having to be squeezed entirely into annual leave. I also just love travelling and experiencing somewhere properly — not only visiting for a few days, but settling into the rhythm of a place and feeling a little bit local.
When I first started building a corporate career in London, that adventurous part of me sometimes felt like something I’d have to sacrifice. WFA means I don’t really have to choose between those two versions of my life. I can work normally during the week, continue building the career I want, and still have the freedom to spend longer in different places — experiencing languages, food, culture and everyday life in a way that a short holiday doesn’t always allow.
For me, that makes WFA much more than a nice-to-have benefit; it has genuinely influenced where I’m willing to work and how long I’ve stayed somewhere.”
Issy, CRM Specialist, Pod
“As a keen solo traveller, Pod’s Working from Abroad policy is a benefit I really value. Having the opportunity to work from abroad for up to 20 days each year gives me the flexibility to spend longer in the countries I want to explore, without needing to use all of my annual leave to do it. It means I can combine doing a job I love with something that’s really important to me personally: travelling and experiencing different places and cultures. Having that flexibility and trust from Pod makes a genuine difference to my work-life balance and is definitely one of the benefits I really appreciate about working here.”
Katy, People Relations Lead, Pod
“I believe WFA schemes can be an incredible opportunity for people who, like me, have family circumstances that require them to spend meaningful time abroad without having to step away from their careers.
I’m a Ukrainian refugee living on my own in London. I genuinely love my work, but I also don’t want to lose sight of my family and the importance of being there for them. My family is very small — my mum and my dog — and since my home was occupied, my mum now lives alone in a new city, without the network of relatives or friends she once had around her. Naturally, when something happens or she needs practical or emotional support, I’m the person she turns to.
I could, of course, use my annual leave every time I need to travel to Ukraine. But not every trip is a holiday. Sometimes I simply need to be there — to help with everyday responsibilities, deal with practical things, or spend time with my mum. Using annual leave for those trips would mean having to choose between being there for my family and saving my holiday time for actual rest.
That is why Pod’s WFA policy was such an important factor for me. Having the opportunity to work from abroad for up to 20 days a year means I can spend time with my mum, support her when she needs me, and still continue doing the job I love without having to put my career or my personal life on hold.
Over time, my team and I have also developed a really effective way of working around these trips. Time differences, being physically away from London, or occasional practical limitations don’t prevent us from collaborating effectively, and I’m able to maintain the same level of involvement and responsibility as I would from the office or from home in London.
For me, this is exactly what a well-designed WFA policy should be about: giving people the flexibility to deal with important parts of their lives while still being fully committed to their work. I’m genuinely grateful that Pod recognises that employees have lives and responsibilities outside of work, and trusts us to manage both in a way that works for everyone.”
Anna, Software Engineer, Pod.
“I moved from Sweden to London for this role, and Pod's WFA policy is what made that leap feel low-risk. I can work from home when I need to see my family, and that means I've never had to choose between building a career here and staying close to the people I love.”

Work from anywhere with Camunda
Camunda is a global software company that hires across 80+ countries, operates fully remote and asynchronously, and offers genuinely flexible hours. As a result, employees can work from anywhere.
"Working remotely at Camunda has been a game changer. I was able to travel through Asia for a month and a half, visiting Thailand, Vietnam, and Indonesia, and at the same time, reconnect with family in the Dominican Republic I hadn't seen in decades, all without compromising collaboration or visibility at work. During my time there, I immersed myself in new cultures, tried incredible food, made incredible friendships with locals, and gained perspectives that have enriched both my personal and professional outlook."
Carlos Ramirez, Camunda
"Camunda's WFA policy gives me the chance to collaborate with great teammates across the world and learn from different cultures and perspectives. I can arrange my working hours to stay focused when I need to, or overlap with colleagues across time zones. When I visit home, I can work while everyone else is at work or school. Then we are all free in the evenings to enjoy real family time. This is a much better alternative to taking time off and spending the whole day alone while everyone else is busy. WFA also helps me build a healthier daily routine, with time to cook, exercise, and focus on personal growth."

Hurree lets employees work from anywhere
Hurree offers AI-powered reporting that helps teams make sense of their data, and trusts its people to work from wherever they need to - including from abroad.
“I work fully remote from Scotland for a company headquartered in Belfast and still feel completely connected to the team. The leadership team trusts us to get the job done from anywhere – I am even able to work from Canada for a few weeks each year, which allows me to spend time with my family. Hurree values the effort you put in, rather than the time spent at your desk, which really motivates us to work hard and do a good job.”
Melissa - Growth Marketing Manager
“I received a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to go across the world to play GAA in Philadelphia for a summer. In most workplaces this would be make or break, but not at Hurree. I was met with enthusiasm, not scepticism. I lived and played GAA in the USA for six months and had an unforgettable experience, all whilst keeping my job and career trajectory in check.”
Jordan - Business Analysta
“Working remotely gives me the freedom to adapt my environment to fit my lifestyle, without losing connection with the team. I worked from Spain to be near my parents and didn’t need to use annual leave. Beach after work, dinner with family, and a swim at lunch. The change of scenery was energising – the best of both worlds.”
Sophie - Quality Assurance Engineer
Flexa encourages work from anywhere, too
At Flexa, our team can work from anywhere in the world for up to 45 days each year. Recently, dev team members David Djebara and Harry Price made the most of this perk with a spontaneous long weekend in Portugal. Between getting plenty of work done on Friday and Monday, they packed in carnival fun, boat trips, beach hikes, sea swims, cycling adventures, and even befriended a dog named Momo. If that’s not wholesome team bonding, we don’t know what is!
Flexa partner, Rita Batalha:
“My approach to working from anywhere starts with intentional location choices. I look for places that tick four key boxes: manageable time zones (usually within 1-3 hours of my core team), solid infrastructure (reliable wifi is non-negotiable), alignment with my hobbies and interests (like surfing or hiking), and cultural environments where I feel comfortable and inspired. Whether that's been the co-working spaces in the UK, Serbia, Spain, Costa Rica or currently here in France or co-living solutions, I always seek out local remote work communities. These spaces aren't just about wifi and coffee – they're where I actually meet people and build friendships while learning how different cultures approach work and collaboration.
The biggest shift has been moving from work-life balance to work-life integration. Instead of compartmentalising my professional and personal priorities, I've found a rhythm where they actually support each other. Being in Cape Verde taught me about "Morabeza" – their approach to kindness – which became foundational to how I build remote culture with my teams. Working from Portugal means I don't miss out on family dinners, friends' birthdays, or those everyday moments that actually matter – and it keeps me motivated and supported, especially when I'm delivering big transformation projects. Working from Brazil's vibrant, creative culture has given me a fresh perspective on my digital transformation projects. This lifestyle has given me the structure I need – clear boundaries between work and life – while never forcing me to compromise on personal priorities or the sports, wellness, and beach activities that amplify my creativity and productivity.”
Circle lets employees WFA full-time
Circle is the AI-powered home for digital businesses that hires around the world and has team members in 30+ countries. Instead of a typical WFA scheme, Circle lets employees work from anywhere - as long as they're able to collaborate with colleagues.
"Working from anywhere has given me the freedom to build and lead a global design team without being tied to a single location. It's allowed me to collaborate with incredibly talented people across different countries, while also designing a life that works for me personally. The best part is that it proves great work doesn't depend on where you are. It comes from trusting people, giving them ownership, and letting them do what they do best."
