Location: Rochdale Wastewater Treatment Works, Roch Valley Way, Rochdale, OL11 4QH
Salary: £40,232 + Competitive shift allowance
Contract Type: Permanent
Working Pattern: Full Time, 37 Hours Per Week

We're looking for a proactive and practical Network Maintainer Controller to join our Wastewater Network team. This is an exciting opportunity for someone with mechanical maintenance experience who enjoys problem-solving, responding to operational challenges and working at the heart of critical wastewater infrastructure.

In this role, you'll play a key part in ensuring wastewater-powered assets continue to operate safely, efficiently and reliably, helping to prevent flooding, reduce pollution incidents and maintain high levels of customer service.

The Role

As a Network Maintainer Controller, you'll provide first-call operational response and carry out reactive, planned and proactive maintenance activities across a range of wastewater-powered assets.

You'll work closely with internal operational teams, contractors and customers to identify and resolve asset issues, undertake root cause investigations and ensure assets are maintained to the highest standards of safety, performance and compliance.

This is a varied, hands-on role that offers excellent opportunities to develop your technical skills while making a real difference to the services provided to our customers.

What You'll Be Doing

Key responsibilities include:

  • Providing first-call response to operational incidents and asset failures.
  • Carrying out basic electrical and mechanical maintenance activities on wastewater-powered assets.
  • Completing fault investigations and root cause analysis to identify long-term solutions and prevent repeat failures.
  • Delivering planned, reactive and proactive maintenance activities across operational sites.
  • Ensuring all maintenance and regulatory information is recorded accurately and reliably within company systems.
  • Reviewing alarm performance data and identifying opportunities for improvement.
  • Liaising with Wastewater Network teams, contractors and internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ensuring wastewater-powered assets are correctly registered and maintained within corporate asset management systems.
  • Supporting initiatives to reduce pollution and flooding incidents arising from asset failures.
  • Issuing permits to work and access certificates for contractors and authorised personnel.
  • Supporting compliance with Environmental Agency permit requirements and company operational standards.
  • Identifying operational and mechanical investment requirements for powered assets.
  • Delivering excellent customer service through effective communication and first-time resolution wherever possible.
  • Attending customer appointments and responding to customer enquiries, complaints and escalations relating to wastewater-powered assets.
  • Contributing to a positive safety culture and ensuring compliance with all health, safety and environmental procedures.

What We're Looking For

We're seeking a motivated individual who enjoys a hands-on role, takes ownership of problems and thrives in a fast-paced operational environment.

You'll have:

  • A minimum NVQ Level 2 qualification in Mechanical Maintenance or an equivalent technical discipline.
  • A basic understanding of mechanical maintenance and the operation of powered assets.
  • A general understanding of wastewater network operations and activities (Preferable).
  • Strong problem-solving and fault-finding abilities.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to build relationships across teams and departments.
  • Good IT skills and confidence using digital maintenance systems.
  • The ability to work independently and use initiative.
  • A flexible approach to managing a varied workload.
  • A strong commitment to health, safety and operational excellence.
  • A full UK manual driving licence.

Technical Skills & Experienc

Working Pattern

This role offers a varied and dynamic working environment and includes:

  • A 5 week shift pattern is in place, averaging 37hrs/week with an operational window from 7am to 7pm, shift includes working one weekend within the 5 week period.
  • Shift allowance in addition to the base salary.
  • Participation in an out-of-hours standby rota.
  • The requirement to respond to emergency call-outs within a reasonable timeframe.
  • Working in physically demanding environments, including:
  • Climbing ladders
  • Working at height
  • Accessing manholes
  • Entering confined spaces
  • Working from access platforms where required

Full training and support will be provided to ensure you develop the skills and competencies needed to succeed in the role.
