
Legal Assistant
Job Description
We are seeking a Legal Assistant to support our fast-paced and dynamic legal department. We are looking for someone who is highly organised, detail-oriented, and proactive, with excellent communication skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively. The ideal candidate will combine a strong administrative background with an interest in legal and compliance work, the ability to work under pressure, and a keen eye for accuracy to support the team in delivering a first-class legal service.
As a Legal Assistant, you will be primarily based in our Head Office, Equity House in Wellingborough with hybrid working in accordance with Booker’s applicable working arrangements. You will report to the Senior Counsel.
In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring all administrative tasks are completed accurately in accordance with company policies, procedures and best practice. You will manage legal documentation, coordinate internal and external communications, respond to routine enquiries and provide day-to-day support to the legal team.
- Carrying out routine administrative tasks, including managing legal correspondence, liaising with courts, legal representatives and third parties, maintaining accurate records, trackers and audit trails.
- Processing authorised requests from external legal advisers, including for colleague pay and absence information relating to employers’ liability personal injury claims, following applicable verification, confidentiality and data-protection requirements.
- Monitoring the Booker Group general information mailbox and directing enquiries to the appropriate colleague for further action.
- Handling the receipt, opening and distribution of daily post.
- Processing invoices related to legal claims and services.
- Managing incoming requests or calls from the wider business, third parties, or the public regarding legal matters and queries.
- Assisting with Subject Access Requests and general GDPR administration.
- Triaging routine legal enquiries from branches and the wider business, providing approved procedural information where appropriate and referring matters requiring legal advice or judgement to the relevant Legal team member.
- Supporting the legal team with reporting and administrative tasks related to compliance programmes, including but not limited to Money Laundering and Anti-Bribery Due Diligence.
- Providing general administrative support to the legal team, assisting with ad-hoc duties as required.
- A strong administrative background.
- Awareness of UK data protection requirements, including the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018.
- Sound judgement, with the ability to identify risk and know when to seek guidance or escalate an issue.
- Capable of working independently with integrity and professionalism.
- Excellent planning, organisational, and prioritisation skills to manage multiple tasks and competing priorities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams) with the ability to use them effectively in a professional setting.
- Confidence in learning and using digital tools to improve processes, maintain consistent records and support legal team reporting and data analysis.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to engage confidently with a wide range of stakeholders, including senior management.
- Proven ability to handle sensitive information with a high degree of confidentiality, respect, and trust.
- A collaborative team player with a proactive and positive approach.
- Enthusiastic, adaptable, and committed to delivering high-quality work.
- Ability to remain calm, composed, and resilient under pressure.
