Your Opportunity
Mott MacDonald is seeking an experienced Principal Security Engineer (Defence) to play a leading role in the delivery of complex Defence, security-sensitive and critical infrastructure projects across Australia.
This role requires a highly capable security engineering professional with extensive experience in physical security systems, Defence facilities, secure government environments, critical infrastructure and SCEC-compliant security solutions. The successful candidate will provide technical leadership across projects, mentor engineering teams, support business growth initiatives and maintain strong client relationships within the Defence and Security sectors.
The ideal candidate will be a SCEC Endorsed Security Consultant (Security Zone Consultant and/or Security Equipment Consultant) or equivalent recognised accreditation and possess significant experience delivering security engineering solutions within Defence, secure government, or other high-security environments.
In this role you will be responsible for:

Lead the planning, design and delivery of physical security and electronic security solutions for Defence, secure government and critical infrastructure projects.

Provide technical leadership for projects involving secure facilities, classified infrastructure, access control, intrusion detection systems, CCTV, perimeter security and integrated security management systems.

Develop innovative and practical solutions to complex security engineering challenges while ensuring alignment with client requirements and regulatory obligations.

Undertake technical reviews, design assurance and verification activities across project portfolios.

Provide specialist advice on SCEC requirements, Defence security policies and secure-by-design principles.

Maintain current knowledge of Defence security requirements, SCEC guidance, Australian Standards and emerging security technologies.
About You
Essential
-
Minimum 8–10 years' experience in security engineering, electronic security systems design and delivery.

Current SCEC Endorsed Security Consultant accreditation (or ability to obtain and maintain accreditation).

Demonstrated experience delivering Defence, secure government, critical infrastructure or security-sensitive projects.

Strong technical knowledge of physical security and electronic security systems.

Experience leading technical workstreams and coordinating multidisciplinary project teams.

Strong understanding of Defence security requirements, SCEC standards and security engineering principles.

Excellent communication, stakeholder engagement and client relationship management skills.

Current or eligible for an Australian Defence Security Clearance (minimum NV1).
Desirable
-
Bachelor of Engineering, Security Engineering, Electrical Engineering or equivalent recognised qualification.

Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) or working towards chartered status.
-
RPEQ, NER, NERA or equivalent professional registrations.

Experience with secure ICT infrastructure and communications systems.

Experience supporting Defence estate projects and major capital works programs.

Working knowledge of integrated building technologies and smart infrastructure solutions.
