Why this job matters

At BT, data is more than just numbers—it’s the backbone of innovation and smarter decision-making. The Networks Architecture Data team harnesses the vast potential of data to develop transformative solutions that drive meaningful outcomes for our customers.

As a Data Solution Architect, you will design and implement data architecture solutions that enable BT to manage, optimize, and evolve data products within Networks Architecture. You’ll collaborate across business units—including Networks, Security, Consumer, Business, Group & Digital—engaging with other data teams, legal and policy experts, and senior stakeholders to ensure seamless, scalable solutions.

Your role is pivotal in shaping the delivery of effective data solutions across domains such as TV, Broadband, Voice, Customer Experience, Mobile, Fixed, and Security. With billions of data points processed daily, your expertise will be instrumental in turning raw data into actionable insights.

What you’ll be doing

• Design and deliver innovative, repeatable E2E solution architectures to solve complex technical challenges and meet business requirements.
• Conduct thorough technical and business discovery, identifying dependencies, integration points, and potential challenges across systems.
• Develop robust recommendations, proposals, and scope-of-work documents, ensuring alignment with stakeholder needs while addressing critical dependencies and gaps.
• Ensure compliance with Enterprise Architecture guardrails, maintaining consistency and adherence to solution patterns.
• Contribute to the Networks Data roadmap, shaping future solutions with strategic E2E considerations.
• Mentor and guide fellow solution architects, fostering technical growth and best practices across the team

The skills you'll need

• Experience designing scalable, E2E solutions for consumer services, leveraging data to enhance customer experiences and business outcomes.
• Solid understanding of Network products, including Security standards, Elastic Fleet Management, industry metrics, and regulatory considerations e.g. TSA.
• Familiarity with cloud and micro-service architectures, as well as foundational knowledge of software-defined networking for data-driven solutions.
• Experience working with hybrid data architectures, spanning multi-cloud environments (AWS, GCP) and on-premise data platforms.
• Practical knowledge of data lifecycle management, including governance, analysis, and essential tools.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills, ensuring alignment across stakeholders and cross-functional teams.
• Supporting the architecture of scalable E2E systems, enhancing customer experiences while aligning with business goals.
• Driving technical decision-making, balancing scalability, performance, and cost-effectiveness across solution designs.
• Collaborating with Networks engineering, security and project teams, ensuring best practices in system operationalization.
• Contributing to the integration of solutions within a broader E2E landscape, helping define architecture patterns across systems, applications, and visualizations.

About us

BT Group was the world’s first telco and our heritage in the sector is unrivalled. As home to several of the UK’s most recognised and cherished brands – BT, EE, Openreach and Plusnet, we have always played a critical role in creating the future, and we have reached an inflection point in the transformation of our business.

Over the next two years, we will complete the UK’s largest and most successful digital infrastructure project – connecting more than 25 million premises to full fibre broadband. Together with our heavy investment in 5G, we play a central role in revolutionising how people connect with each other.

While we are through the most capital-intensive phase of our fibre investment, meaning we can reward our shareholders for their commitment and patience, we are absolutely focused on how we organise ourselves in the best way to serve our customers in the years to come. This includes radical simplification of systems, structures, and processes on a huge scale. Together with our application of AI and technology, we are on a path to creating the UK’s best telco, reimagining the customer experience and relationship with one of this country’s biggest infrastructure companies.

Change on the scale we will all experience in the coming years is unprecedented. BT Group is committed to being the driving force behind improving connectivity for millions and there has never been a more exciting time to join a company and leadership team with the skills, experience, creativity, and passion to take this company into a new era.
