Location: Portsmouth Naval Base – on-site only

Job Description:

Joining the quality team, you will undertake inspections of the product during Build in accordance with the relevant inspection and test plans. You will also be capable of managing own tasks, delivering results and providing coaching and mentoring to junior members of the Quality department within own capability and skill base area.

Core duties:

  • You will be able to access, have a clear understanding of and apply the local Management System documentation e.g. policies, procedures, workmanship standards, risk assessments and COSHH assessments and processes and apply in their related area
  • You will participate in the development, maintenance and modification of processes and procedures in assigned areas Responsible for conducting the verification of non-conformances
  • You will liaise / interface with appropriate areas of the business to build and maintain effective relationships
  • You will utilise calibrated measuring equipment to assess and measure tolerances of the product and record any non-conformance
  • You will be responsible for conducting Quality investigations; Report results of inspections using agreed processes and identify trends to support improvement activities
  • You will represent the department at local Quality reviews and liaise with the customer when required

Essential Skills:

  • You will bring a quality control/assurance background in a Manufacturing, workshop environment
  • You will understand the technology and tools applicable to the discipline, including investigations
  • You will have the ability to interpret specifications, procedures and contract requirements and cascade to others
  • You will have a working knowledge of facilitating Root Cause Analysis (RCA) methodologies; Fishbone, 5 Why, relationship diagrams, six sigma etc. gathering and analysing evidence cross functionally
  • You will be effective at action management and verification

The Quality Team:

You will deal with emergent issues and anticipate and escalate problems where required. This includes resolving issues that showcases your knowledge and judgement and ability to escalate complex issues. Through Conducting specialist Quality activities in accordance with relevant processes and procedures, you will demonstrate your technical knowledge to be a Process Owner / mandatory stakeholder in your specialist Quality discipline. Domain areas include, but are not limited to: Dimensional Control, Electrical, Paint, Pipe/Mechanical, Structural / Steelwork, Non-Destructive Examination (Weld Inspection), Receipt Inspection, Sheet Metalwork, Acoustic Tiling
