Job Description

APM Terminals

At APM Terminals, a global leader in port and terminal operations, we enable global trade and drive sustainable growth. What drives us forward is a mindset of always improving — observing how work happens, identifying what creates value, and removing what gets in the way. We constantly look for smarter, simpler, and safer ways of operating. If you thrive in environments where people value learning and are committed to continuously improve daily operations, join us and be a part of our journey.

What We Can Offer

At APMT Terminals, we foster a dynamic learning and training culture that empowers our employees to excel. Our commitment to improvement is driven by Lean principles, ensuring that every team member has the opportunity to develop their skills and advance their careers. Experience a diverse, multinational workplace where your operational insights directly influence how we work.

• Support innovation: You will contribute to modernizing one of the Mediterranean’s most strategic terminals, working with teams that embrace new tools, technologies, and smarter ways of operating.
• Work–life balance: We promote a healthy balance through flexible collaboration practices and a supportive team culture.
• Professional development: You will work closely with technical, financial, and operational experts, gaining exposure to complex project execution and industry-leading methodologies.

Key Responsibilities

As a Project Cost Engineer, you will:

  • Manage and maintain project cost control, including forecasts for capital investments and operational expenditures.
  • Own and update the project budget against the Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) and ensure transparency of cost performance.
  • Build reliable Estimate at Completion (EAC) and Estimate to Complete (ETC) forecasts using recognized industry approaches.
  • Track and validate Value of Work Done (VOWD), supporting Earned Value Management (EVM) and variance analysis.
  • Evaluate resource requirements, productivity data, commitments, and cost variances to guide decision-making.
  • Prepare monthly cost reports, project progress summaries, cash-flow plans, and accrual documentation.
  • Support change management processes, including quantifying budget and scope adjustments and updating baselines.
  • Manage the allocation and drawdown of contingencies and allowances, ensuring alignment with risk assessments.
  • Oversee contract-related cost administration, invoice validation, and financial close-out activities.
  • Develop ROFO (Rolling Forecast) and support on IFU (Investment Follow-up) processes.
  • Review and control bank guarantees and insurance policies related to project contracts.

What We Are Looking For

Continuous improvement mindset: We are looking for someone who brings a strong mindset of continuous improvement – someone who is naturally curious, committed to solving problems at the root, and driven to make things better every day.

Additionally, you bring:

  • A minimum of 3-5 years’ experience in infrastructure, marine terminal, or industrial construction project environments.
  • Proven ability to manage the full project cost lifecycle, from conceptual estimates to contract close-out and reporting.
  • Strong technical proficiency in EAC/ETC forecasting, cost variance analysis, and data extraction from enterprise systems (IFS, SAP, or similar).
  • Advanced Excel skills, including complex modelling and dataset analysis to detect early cost or productivity deviations.
  • Excellent communication skills in English and Spanish, with the ability to translate technical progress into financial impacts for stakeholders.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Civil, Mechanical, Industrial, or similar).
