About this Role

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented professional to provide junior-level 2nd Line technical support for live telecommunications transport systems used by Vodafone operating companies and external customers. This role offers the opportunity to develop expertise in DWDM and optical transport networks by supporting network monitoring, incident analysis, maintenance, testing, and controlled implementation of hardware and software changes. The successful candidate will work closely with experienced engineers, contribute to service restoration activities, and progressively build operational competence through structured learning and hands-on experience.

What you’ll do

• Monitor DWDM and optical transport network elements and identify alarms using network management systems.
• Perform initial incident analysis and execute standard repair activities in line with documented procedures.
• Collect and document alarms, logs, performance data, configurations, and technical evidence required for investigation.
• Support service restoration activities and escalate complex incidents to senior engineers, field services, or vendor support as required.
• Conduct routine proactive maintenance checks and report recurring issues or deviations.
• Assist with network rollout activities, planned changes, software upgrades, and parameter modifications while following quality and change management requirements.
• Support testing, integration, acceptance, and configuration of new DWDM network elements.
• Maintain accurate incident records, operational documentation, and work instructions.
• Participate in technical training, knowledge-sharing activities, and shadowing opportunities to develop 2nd Line support capabilities.
• Participate in a 24/7 on-call service after completing the required training and readiness assessment.
• Deliver accurate monitoring and initial analysis of alarms and incidents affecting optical transport network infrastructure.
• Execute standard diagnostic and recovery actions within approved procedures and access permissions.
• Ensure timely and well-documented escalation of incidents when required.
• Complete the agreed learning plan and demonstrate increasing readiness for more advanced responsibilities.
• Participate in company-provided German language training where applicable and apply acquired language skills in daily activities.

Who you are

• Basic understanding of fixed and mobile telecommunications network architecture.
• Foundational knowledge of DWDM network architecture, optical transmission technologies, and OTN concepts.
• Exposure to network equipment, monitoring platforms, or network management systems through academic studies, laboratory work, internships, training programmes, or professional experience.
• Familiarity with Huawei, Ciena, or Infinera optical transport platforms would be advantageous.
• Ability to follow technical procedures, perform initial diagnostics, interpret alarms, and document findings accurately.
• Basic analytical and troubleshooting skills with a structured approach to issue resolution.
• Strong collaborative and communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively within multicultural and virtual teams.
• Good organisational skills, attention to detail, and eagerness to learn new technologies.
• Written and spoken English.Willingness to learn German (German language nice to have).
• Technical higher education completed or in progress in Telecommunications, Electronics, Automation, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related discipline is preferred.
• Entry-level vendor certifications or training from providers such as Cisco, Huawei, Nokia, Ciena, or similar organisations are desirable but not mandatory.
