When you join us as an experienced professional, you will bring your expertise to work that matters while continuing to grow your career. You will collaborate with talented colleagues across disciplines and geographies, contribute your perspective, and help shape better outcomes through technical excellence, innovation, and integrity.

Build on your experience while helping shape what comes next. At Mott MacDonald, you'll work alongside talented people on complex and rewarding projects that make a real difference. We value fresh perspectives, encourage collaboration, and provide opportunities to expand your skills, take on new challenges, and grow your career. Whether you're deepening your technical expertise, broadening your leadership experience, or exploring new opportunities across our business, you'll be supported by a team that is committed to helping you succeed.

Mott MacDonald is looking to hire a motivated individual to join our growing team in Toronto in order to develop, support, and provide oversight on the execution of Signaling and Train Control Systems projects for rail and transit systems. As part of our wider Rail Systems Team spanning Vancouver, Calgary, and Toronto, this position provides the opportunity to contribute to the growth of our Ontario operations, including collaboration with other subject matter experts across various projects, occasionally witnessing works on active construction sites, and contributing to long-term business development opportunities. This role will report to the Rail Systems Lead for Central Canada.

Working within Mott MacDonald's Rail Systems practice, the successful candidate will be supported by senior signalling, systems engineering, testing and commissioning specialists across Canada and North America to further develop technical and project leadership capabilities. The position offers a clear development pathway towards Signalling Lead and Project Manager responsibilities.

  • Review signaling system designs, specifications, installation, and testing plans for compliance with applicable regulations, standards, and guidelines
  • Provide technical advisory services and input to clients in the development of system requirements and contract documents for signaling and train control systems projects
  • Support testing, commissioning, migration, cutover, and operational readiness activities, occasionally necessitating attendance on site
  • Contribute to the development, adoption, and delivery of railway signaling design processes within Mott MacDonald’s North American practices
  • Lead the signalling elements of project bids and project delivery within Mott MacDonald Canada, including interfacing with Infrastructure Design, Project and Systems Engineering teams together with budget development as necessary
  • Apply lessons learned and advise on necessary corrective actions for ongoing projects
  • Provide technical support to teams at all stages of the Project life cycle
  • Develop and work with key delivery partners and service providers for projects
  • Engage with end clients as and when necessary

Candidate Specifications:

  • Bachelors Degree (or equivalent) in Engineering/Science (preferably Electrical/Mechanical/Systems Engineering)
  • At least 7 years’ progressive experience in Signals design, specification, installation, or maintenance with significant experience in heavy rail or passenger rail and transit projects
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation from PEO, or eligible for license
  • Demonstrable experience in one or more of the following, with awareness of the remainder:
    • Conventional signalling systems
    • Communications-Based Train Control (CBTC)
    • Positive Train Control (PTC)
    • European Train Control System (ETCS)

  • Demonstrates interpersonal skills with proven ability to work effectively as part of a multi-disciplined team
  • Able to hold competent technical discussions with Client representatives
  • Able to interface with domain specialists, design managers and construction project managers, in a competent professional manner

Bring your expertise, curiosity, and drive to make a difference. If you are ready to join a collaborative consultancy where your perspective is valued, your growth is supported, and you are empowered to lead with integrity, we would love to hear from you.
