About the business unit
The Energy unit delivers services to clients globally across several sectors including hydropower, nuclear, waste, renewable generation and transmission & distribution networks. Together we provide integrated engineering and project management services across the project lifecycle – from concept and design to construction and operations, to decommissioning or repowering and life extension. Together with our clients, we’re helping to deliver the energy transition globally.

About the role

Join our Energy Unit’s, Nuclear: Defence and Civil division as a Senior Electrical Building Services Engineer and get the opportunity to work on exciting projects within a highly regulated / secure sector. You’ll play a key role in managing and delivering electrical building services design solutions for single or multi-discipline small and large scale projects, new and refurbishment projects or be part of an integrated project team, while contributing to technical excellence and collaborating with a successful team across the UK and Europe.

In this role, you will be an integral part of our wider engineering teams, working alongside various Clients and specialist suppliers to deliver innovative, technically excellent solutions.

You will be responsible for the management and delivery of electrical building services design solutions, commensurate to the design phase through sound engineering knowledge.

You will be able to work independently, be highly motivated, have demonstrable engineering experience and be confident in your own ability to deliver the electrical building services design scope for our projects.

All our designs undergo the highest level of validation and verification before installation occurs and health & safety management is crucial to meet our Clients requirements.

Our portfolio comprises a variety of different types of project work within a highly regulated / secure sector, including:

  • Conceptual Designs.
  • New-Build Facilities.
  • Refurbishment of existing buildings.
  • Asset care/renewal to extend the operational life of legacy buildings.
  • Design solutions to support decommissioning activities.

About you

In this role, you’ll:

  • Be working within multi-disciplinary design teams delivering the electrical building services design solutions.
  • Produce and review design documents including basis of designs, technical specifications, procurement specifications, condition assessment reports and survey reports covering all aspects of electrical building services design.
  • Produce and review project layout drawings, block cable diagrams and single line schematic diagrams to present the electrical building services design solutions.
  • Produce and review project engineering calculations to underpin and substantiate the electrical building services design solutions.
  • Support production of estimates of work elements including programme/schedule development and manhour costs to help guide bids and proposals.
  • Management and monitoring of the design phase activities to meet the programme and cost schedule.
  • Produce and review electrical power demand assessment reports, advise on all aspects of energy consumption and electrical utilisation, identify recommendations to improve energy performance.
  • Ensure compliance with Construction (Design and Management) Regulations – designer’s duties, current legislation, regulations and standards associated with all engineering aspects of the projects.
  • Ensure compliance with Building Regulations and Environmental/Sustainability requirements / targets.
  • Attend engineering meetings liaising with other disciplines and Clients as necessary across multi-discipline projects.
  • Participate in and advise on all design activities and initiatives, including assurance, governance and documentation review.
  • Carry out site surveys of electrical building services and equipment to establish status of the existing installations and gain sufficient information to recommend new/upgrade electrical building services design proposals.

Candidate Specification

  • Have sound engineering knowledge, good experience and be familiar with electrical building services design principals and processes.
  • Have initiative, be proactive, be self-motivated and have the confidence to make decisions.
  • Have the ability to communicate effectively with Clients and team members.
  • Have up to date knowledge of current regulations and standards applicable in electrical building services design / infrastructure design environments.
  • Have Experience using software packages such as; Dialux, Relux, Trimble MEP Designer Suite (Amtech Power) and AutoCAD.
  • BIM knowledge and 3D design experience would be beneficial.
  • Have a Degree in Building Services (Electrical Biased) or Electrical Engineering.
  • Attained or be progressing professional registration as a Chartered Engineer (CEng) and membership in a professional body.
  • Nuclear Experience is NOT a requirement, experience working in other highly regulated industries would be beneficial.
