Mott MacDonald is leading the delivery of transformative infrastructure projects across the country, and as our major project portfolio expands, we are seeking a Principal Civil Engineering Lead to guide and inspire a diverse, multi‑disciplinary team. This critical people‑leadership role is ideal for a seasoned civil engineering professional who excels at developing talent, fostering collaboration across technical disciplines, and steering complex infrastructure solutions from vision to delivery. You will play a central role in shaping project strategy, empowering cross‑functional teams, and driving outcomes that create lasting value for our clients and the communities we serve.

As a Principal Civil Engineering Lead, you would be accountable for the below:


  • Providing senior technical and design leadership to steer the planning, delivery, and design management of major infrastructure projects and programs.
  • Leading and collaborating within large, multidisciplinary project teams, setting expectations for coordination, reviewing design documentation for consistency, and fostering an integrated approach across engineering disciplines.
  • Serving as Engineer-of-Record for key project packages, supported by a team of technical specialists and production staff, while establishing a culture of accountability, precision, and continuous improvement.
  • Offering strong people leadership through mentorship, coaching, and oversight of intermediate and junior team members, actively developing talent and supporting technical growth across the practice.
  • Contributing to strategic proposal development, bringing forward technical insight, team planning, and leadership perspectives that strengthen win strategies and position the organization for future success.
  • Building and maintaining trusted relationships with clients and stakeholders, and playing a key leadership role in shaping the ongoing development and success of major infrastructure programs.

The successful candidate will possess the below skills and qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in Civil Engineering

  • Registered Professional Engineer registered with the PEO;

  • 15+ years of progressive experience in civil engineering design in any major infrastructure sector (transportation, transit, water/waste water conveyance, municipal, highway or other related market sector);

  • Experience in team leadership and management;

  • Strong written and communication skills;

  • Confident and positive attitude;

Multiple factors such as qualifications, overall experience and position responsibilities will be used to determine the successful candidate's actual salary within the expected range.

The expected salary range for this position is from $160,000 - $200,000.
