Your opportunity

As a Principal civil engineer, you will be involved in a range of sewer and water pipeline network design projects. Including supporting Sydney Water - Water Service Coordinator (WSC) projects from planning to construction, for a range of private and public clients. In this role, you’ll work closely with our New South Wales water design team while being part of our national Australian Water team. You will also assist in business development opportunities under the direction our team leaders, including proposal preparation.

You will be joining a diverse and passionate team with a proven track record delivering major projects across Australia in a growing sector, working with local clients such as Sydney Water, as well as opportunities to work with national and international clients. You will have the opportunity to work on all stages of the project lifecycle, from early inception to multi-criteria analysis and through to detailed design, either directly for the client or as part of a D&C delivery team. You will also assist in business development opportunities under the direction our team leaders, including proposal preparation. You'll make an impact by extending your knowledge across all facets of water infrastructure projects and developer related works (land subdivisions, buildings, roads, rail projects and civil/utility/master planning works).

You will have the opportunity to:

  • Provide technical input to pipeline design projects across all stages of the project lifecycle.
  • Managing tenders / proposals to contribute to our team’s growth and direction.
  • Project management and delivery of multidisciplinary water design projects throughout the project life cycle.
  • Developing strong relationships with clients and representing Mott MacDonald at client meetings.
  • Mentor and develop others, providing guidance to support their professional development.

About you

As an experienced engineer within water with a Sydney Water accreditation category C3 or higher you'll be looking to grow your career in working within a multi-discipline team with a large technical consultancy firm that operates worldwide with excellent quality assurance and safety process and controls. Some key requirements for the role include:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Mechanical or Civil Engineering.
  • 7+ years’ experience delivering engineering solutions for water and wastewater infrastructure.
  • Experience in the Sydney Water assets planning and design such as wastewater, water and stormwater assets; both major and minor works with Category C3 accreditation or higher.
  • Experience in Building Plan Approval Stamping / Approval and related requirements.
  • Experience on site inspections and WSC Delivery works with Sydney Water Site accreditation
  • Strong technical capability in pipeline design and construction‑led engineering environments.
  • Solid understanding of Australian water industry standards and sustainability practices.
  • Experience in consulting, including delivering client‑ready design reports.
  • Proven technical leadership, including mentoring and guiding junior team members.
  • The ability to work independently with support from national and global teams.
