What you'll bring to the team

We have a new opportunity for a robust, hands-on, Multi-Skilled Maintenance Engineer to join our operations team at SEA LIFE London Aquarium. You’ll be ensuring the smooth, safe, and continuous operation of our aquarium life support systems, exhibits, as well as our building infrastructure.

This is a permanent position, ideal for a Multi-Skilled Maintenance Engineer who possesses a strong background in perhaps a factory or industrial setting, where fault-finding, preventative maintenance, and rapid breakdown response are paramount and therefore second nature.

Being the Multi-Skilled Maintenance Engineer in this position will see you take ownership of key duties such as:

  • Maintaining, servicing, and repairing various high-flow pumps and critical marine life support systems (LSS).
  • Conducting planned preventative maintenance (PPM) on mechanical plant equipment.
  • Maintaining and troubleshooting general lighting and specialized DMX lighting systems across all exhibit areas and public zones.
  • Performing PLC fault finding and diagnostic checks on automated control systems.
  • Carry out scheduled PPM for Air Handling Units (AHUs), AC units, chillers, and extract fans.

In addition, the Multi-Skilled Maintenance Engineer will be required to perform general facility repairs, including routine door repairs as and when required. You’ll oversee and maintain toilet functionality, including unblocking and minor plumbing repairs.

You will be working on a rotating shift pattern consisting of early and late schedules;

  • Early Shift: 08:00 – 16:00
  • Late Shift: 12:00 – 20:00

Qualifications & Experience

We require the appointed Multi-Skilled Maintenance Engineer to possess the following;

  • Proven working history as an engineer within a factory, manufacturing, or heavy industrial background.
  • A Degree, City & Guilds or ONC, NVQ Level 3 or BTEC equivalent
  • To hold the 18th Edition Wiring Regulations qualification.
  • Strong mechanical and electrical fault-finding capabilities.
  • Be familiar with PLC controls, HVAC/chiller systems, and fluid/pumping mechanics.
  • A proactive "can-do" attitude with experience managing heavy PPM schedules.

The ability to work effectively in a high-traffic public venue will be very important in this role, equally to have the right health and safety awareness will be important.

You will be on your feet for most of the day, there will be lots of working as well as climbing stairs and ladders in this role. At times you will need to manoeuvre in awkward / sight places to be able to reach a work area you are concerned with.

There will be also a degree of manual handling, such as needing to carry 20kilos bags of salt when needing to maintain the water softener for instance, and this could be multiple bags and a long distance.
