Job Description

Job Req ID: 58950

Closing Date: 1st June

Location: Manchester or London

About the role

BT is entering a new phase of growth, shifting from large-scale infrastructure investment to unlocking value from data, platforms and AI. This role sits at the centre of that ambition.

As Senior Product Manager, New Data Solutions, you will be accountable for identifying, validating and scaling new data-led product opportunities that deliver measurable commercial growth for BT. You will lead ambiguous, high-impact initiatives where there is no established playbook, shaping strategy, making evidence-based investment decisions, and ensuring successful transition from incubation into BT’s core business.

This role sits within the Data and Developer Solutions division of Etc., BT’s internal innovation organisation. It plays a critical role in turning innovation into repeatable, scalable business opportunities.

What you’ll be doing

Product, portfolio and commercial leadership

  • Own the product vision and strategy for a defined portfolio of new data solution opportunities, aligned to BT’s strategic growth priorities, translating customer and commercial needs into clear roadmaps and measurable commercial outcomes.
  • Act as the accountable product leader for complex, ambiguous problem domains, making evidence-based decisions to invest, pivot, partner or stop initiatives.
  • Define and articulate clear product vision, value propositions and success measures, ensuring alignment to customer needs, market opportunity and BT’s strategic intent.
  • Own the commercial logic for new products, including value cases, pricing considerations, investment rationale and performance tracking post-launch.
  • Ensure products are commercially viable, operationally scalable and ready for transition into core BT ownership.

Strategy, influence and senior stakeholder leadership

  • Shape and influence portfolio-level prioritisation decisions across Data Solutions, balancing customer value, commercial impact and delivery capacity.
  • Influence senior stakeholders across business units and partners without direct authority, building alignment and momentum around new growth opportunities.
  • Contribute to broader thought leadership and strategy for data and AI-driven products within BT.

Product development and delivery oversight

  • Lead multidisciplinary teams across product management, UX, engineering, data science and analysis, ensuring delivery focuses on outcomes rather than outputs.
  • Set clear direction for product discovery, experimentation and delivery, using customer insight, market analysis and performance data to guide decisions.
  • Ensure appropriate analytics and insight are in place to measure adoption, value and growth, and to inform ongoing optimisation.
  • Identify, manage and mitigate delivery, commercial and strategic risks across the product portfolio.

People and capability leadership

  • Line manage, mentor and develop product talent, building future-ready capability across product management and adjacent disciplines.
  • Lead improvements to product ways of working, raising standards and maturity across discovery, delivery and commercial thinking.
  • Role model BT’s leadership behaviours, creating a high-performing, inclusive and outcome-focused culture.

Essential Skills / Experience

  • Significant experience leading end-to-end product strategy, discovery, delivery and scale-up in complex, ambiguous environments.
  • Proven ability to own product outcomes, including commercial performance, not just delivery milestones.
  • Strong judgement and decision-making capability under uncertainty, including making hard trade-offs.
  • Experience shaping and influencing senior stakeholders across multiple functions and organisations.
  • Deep understanding of modern data platforms, analytics and AI-enabled products, sufficient to guide strategic and architectural decisions.
  • Strong commercial acumen, including business case development and performance monitoring.
  • Experience leading and developing people, with a track record of building capability and raising standards.

Desirable Skills / Experience

  • Experience shaping go-to-market strategies, pricing and packaging for new digital or data products.
  • Platform and ecosystem thinking, including partner selection and build/buy/partner decisions.
  • Experience working with OKRs or similar outcome-based frameworks at product or portfolio level.
  • Experience operating within large, complex or highly regulated organisations.
  • Some knowledge of geospatial mobile network data would be helpful but not essential
