Due to the sensitive nature of this role, you will be required to undergo DV (Developed Vetting) level Security Clearance (https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/united-kingdom-security-vetting-clearance-levels/national-security-vetting-clearance-levels). An allowance of £5k per annum may be payable monthly while you hold this DV and continue to work in a role that requires that level of security clearance. The terms of this allowance will be made available if you are successful in being recruited into this role.

This job role can be based in Cheltenham, London, Manchester or Ipswich. Due to security requirements, this role requires you to be located on site during your working hours. Mon-Fri 37.5. DV Security Clearance is required. Must have lived in UK for 10+ years to obtain clearance.

What you’ll be doing

• Owns and leads the secure platforms engineering organisation, ensuring the consistent delivery of resilient, secure, and high‑quality platform services across cloud environments, VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF), and container-based services, meeting external and internal customer needs on time and budget, while embedding measurability, reliability, and security across the platform portfolio.
• Sets the technical direction for secure platform architecture and service quality, defining engineering standards and lifecycle management strategies across multi-cloud services (public/private), VCF estates, and container orchestration platforms (e.g., Kubernetes) for business-critical systems.
• Acts as a subject matter expert in secure hybrid platform design and delivery, leading the assessment of platform performance, resilience, scalability, and compliance across cloud-native and virtualised environments, ensuring adherence to defined service objectives and industry standards.
• Establishes and enforces repeatable, scalable engineering processes across infrastructure-as-code, cloud platform services, VCF deployments, and container pipelines, driving consistency, security, and operational excellence.
• Owns the identification and mitigation of platform and security risks across distributed cloud architectures, virtualised platforms, and container ecosystems, leveraging deep expertise in solution architecture and cyber security to ensure robust governance and assurance.

• Qualifications or significant experience in secure platform architecture coving hybrid, multi-cloud, on prem, public cloud environments (Azure, GCP, AWS)
• Experience of VMWare Cloud Foundations design, deployment and optimisation.
• Container platforms and orchestration (Kubernetes, OpenShift, Docker)

• Infrastructure as Code e.g Terraform
• Platform standardisation and reference architecture design
• Cyber Security Frameworks and compliance experience (e.g NIST, Zero Trust, ISO 27001)

Desirable

• FinOps and cloud cost governance and oversight
• AI/automation integration
• Experience working in government or regulated environments
