Job Description

APM Terminals

Head of Lean & Business Transformation Strategy

At APM Terminals, a global leader in port and terminal operations, we enable global trade and drive sustainable growth. What drives us forward is a mindset of always improving — observing how work happens, identifying what creates value, and removing what gets in the way. We constantly look for smarter, simpler, and safer ways of operating. If you thrive in environments where people value learning and are committed to continuously improve daily operations, join us and be a part of our journey.

About APM Terminals Bahrain

APM Terminals Bahrain is the location for this role, with the Lean & Business Transformation team supporting the terminal’s Way of Working program, annual business project plan, and KBSP 2030 Growth Strategy.

What We Can Offer

At APM Terminals, we foster a dynamic learning and training culture that empowers our employees to excel. Our commitment to improvement means every team member has the opportunity to develop their skills and advance their careers by continuously refining how we work. Experience a diverse, multinational workplace where your operational insights directly influence how we work.

  • Lead transformation initiatives that strengthen lean ways of working and continuous improvement across the terminal.
  • Build capability through coaching, mentoring, training and development of the Lean & Business Transformation team and terminal leaders.
  • Collaborate with senior stakeholders, cross-functional teams, global improvement initiatives and external consultants.
  • Contribute to APMT Bahrain’s annual business project plan and KBSP 2030 Growth Strategy.

Key Responsibilities

  • Drive and coach the APMT Bahrain organization in embedding lean culture, leadership behavioral change and the Way of Working program.
  • Coordinate local implementation of Process Standardization, Operating System, Lean Academy, Kaizen improvement activities and Training Within Industry, including JI, WI and Job Relations.
  • Coordinate the annual APM Terminals Bahrain business project plan, global improvements and initiatives supporting the KBSP 2030 Growth Strategy.
  • Inform, escalate and support decision-making with the APMT Bahrain MD and APMT Middle East leadership team, providing timely reporting on progress, issues and risks.
  • Lead and develop the Lean & Business Transformation team, creating an environment that supports learning, training, performance and open communication.
  • Facilitate policy development, coach leaders and support management in quantifying, planning and implementing improvements aligned with overall targets.
  • Strengthen cross-functional collaboration, continuously review progress and risks, and adjust action plans to support delivery of objectives while complying with company, labour and HSSE requirements.

What We Are Looking For

  • Continuous improvement mindset: we are looking for someone who brings a thoughtful improvement mindset—curious about how work gets done and motivated to make meaningful, sustainable improvements over time.
  • Leadership expectation: We are looking for people who consistently put customers first, lead by example with respect for people, deliver results with integrity, and drive continuous improvement by solving problems at the root, developing people, and raising standards every day.
  • Experience: 5–8 years in management consulting or transformation-related roles, ideally in the Middle East, plus 3–5 years in program management or continuous improvement deployment, or significant experience with logistics and terminal operating systems.
  • Technical knowledge: Solid understanding of modern terminal operations, terminal management systems and the APM Terminals Operating System. Container terminal operational or managerial experience is preferred.
  • Qualifications: Project Management certification is required; Lean Six Sigma is preferred. Knowledge of public-private partnerships and stakeholder interaction between the private and public sectors is useful.
  • Leadership and delivery: Proven experience leading and developing teams, managing multiple timelines, influencing senior decision-makers and driving projects through to completion.
  • Communication and analytical skills: Strong change-management, facilitation, analytical and problem-solving skills, with proficiency in PowerPoint storytelling and Excel modelling and the ability to work effectively with virtual project teams and external consultants.
