Head of Airbus Tech Hub Netherlands

We are looking for a Head of Airbus Tech Hub Netherlands who will contribute from a Dutch perspective to accelerating the transition towards decarbonization of the aviation sector with a strong focus on technological advancement.

In this role, you will support and help shape national and international strategic initiatives and roadmaps, such as Flying Vision Accelerator, projects on decarbonization technologies and industrial related roadmaps. You will work closely with industry partners, knowledge institutes and government, translating insights from technology, market and policy developments into concrete actions, roadmaps and project outputs.

You will be part of the Tech Hub NL team linked to a global network of Tech Hubs, contributing to long-term vision development, multi-stakeholder collaboration and innovation programs that support the decarbonization of aviation with the Dutch ecosystem. You will be working in a high-tech and fast paced environment pioneering sustainable aerospace for a safe and united world.

You will lead our Tech Hub team in the Netherlands. You will functionally report to the global Tech Hub organization that is part of Airbus Group Technology and locally to the Managing Director of the Airbus NL. You will liaise with the Airbus organizations and with partners and government institutions to initiate and shape research and innovation initiatives for the Airbus technology domains. You will oversee the progress of projects in our portfolio and report on those. You will work closely with our Communications and Public Affairs staff of Airbus NL to bolster support, promote and develop the Tech Hub footprint and create new opportunities.

In The Netherlands, Airbus has multiple production and office sites, with over 250 FTE of staff combined. Although the majority of these employees focus on delivery of hardware to the space industry (e.g. satellite solar arrays and launcher structures), Airbus Netherlands operates as a cross-divisional entity and supports to strengthen the connection between Dutch players and the various Airbus divisions.

In April 2024, Airbus opened the Airbus Tech Hub in the Netherlands, a platform to catalyse breakthroughs in aerospace research, technology and innovation with the local ecosystem. The Airbus Tech Hub NL connects the global Airbus Research & Technology (research and innovation) needs with the excellence and the ambitions in the Netherlands and aims to grow the Dutch contribution to the future success of Airbus: more Airbus in NL, more NL in Airbus.

Today, a team with enthusiastic innovators form the Tech Hub team at Airbus NL, focusing on the following themes: Future Energy Technologies, Cabin of the Future, Aircraft Operations, Composites and Industrialised systems, Connectivity, Quantum and MRO. Since the launch of the hub, the team has already established a significant portfolio of research and innovation projects.

Mission:

To bring together and foster collaboration of aerospace professionals, researchers and innovators in the local ecosystem, connected to Airbus centrally. This will be done through partnerships with local industries, universities and research centres and extended to support opportunities with SMEs and startups. Grow the engagement of Airbus in NL through defining and developing new technology cooperative programmes.

For Airbus Commercial, Helicopters, and Defence & Space Research and Innovation Programmes:

  • Maintain and develop the Airbus research and innovation strategy in country;
  • Provide regular updates and adhere to the global group roadmap architecture;
  • Provide visibility across all research and innovation initiatives;
  • Facilitate and develop research and innovation partnerships;
  • Capture of local funding opportunities and being in charge of related reporting obligations; and
  • Align with current group organisations: research and innovation partnerships, Roadmap community, intellectual property and export control policies.

For Airbus Commercial research and innovation Programme:

  • Represent research and innovation programme in the country;
  • Ensure alignment of local projects with research and innovation programme, centres of competence and relevant business units;
  • Participate and contribute to the research and innovation Global Community and Network; and
  • Contribute to the governance of the research and innovation Global Footprint.

For Airbus in-Country:

  • Responsible for alignment between local needs and research and innovation global footprint strategy; and
  • Act as a research and innovation focal point to other in-country Airbus functions (eg. Procurement, Engineering Centers, Divisions, Commercial,..)

For Airbus Tech Hub the Netherlands:

  • To be the official spokesperson for research and innovation in the country working with Communications
  • To support operational governance for the Tech Hub in the Netherlands including SQCDP governance and overall portfolio management
  • To manage the teams in the Tech Hub the Netherlands to comply with the research and innovation governance
  • To support scouting activities from Central Innovation for the Netherlands
  • To support Technology & Engineering to identify problem statements and opportunities in the research and innovation that aligns with our company's needs and support its growth.
  • Support in-country Commercial or offset obligations in close collaboration with the research and innovation programmes of the respective divisions (where applicable).
  • Liaise with the Dutch innovation ecosystem to further develop the ambitions of the Tech Hub.
  • Grow the engagement of Airbus in NL through defining and developing new technology cooperative programmes.
  • Other duties reasonably determined from time to time by the Company

  • Ability to handle complex partnership structure working cross consortiums and with government organizations.
  • Strong project management skills.
  • Highly competent technical capabilities across the entire aircraft production lifecycle.
  • Ability to work in an international environment - occasional late hours.

Requirements:

  • Masters / Doctorate in Aerospace / Engineering with experience in aerospace industrial and/or research domain.
  • Experience working in a research and/or innovation environment in the Netherlands.
  • Strong understanding of Airbus technology roadmaps (a plus)
  • Experience in the aerospace industry in the Netherlands with network and knowledge of global and local aviation technological developments.
  • Partnership development and innovation knowledge is preferred.
  • Experience in negotiating contracts and handling conflicts.
  • Familiar with governance of local government funding for technology - to secure the fund and and ensure governance.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively in English and Dutch (verbal and written)
  • Available 40 hours per week.
  • Residency in the Netherlands.
