Job Description

Tesco recently transformed the customer and colleague checkout experience across the UK and ROI, with over 40,000 tills processing more than £200m in transactions per week through our unified platform. This transformation provides a consistent foundation across the store estate, enabling Tesco to drive change through our till platform to simplify operations and deliver a refined checkout experience for both customers and colleagues while driving significant cost savings and improved efficiency.

As part of our Save to Invest strategy, this programme is shaped around optimisation initiatives that reduce friction and improve process across both technology and operations. The Technical Programme Manager in this space will play a key role in driving these improvements, working cross-functionally to streamline end to end delivery to store. This is an opportunity to be at the heart of a high impact, fast paced programme of work supporting Tesco’s ambition to create a seamless checkout experience for millions of customers worldwide.

You will oversee the delivery of optimisation initiatives across multiple initiatives and experiments across various checkout types enabling cross-country, at scale delivery ensuring quality and timely delivery. You will work and collaborate with Business and Technology teams to shape development and delivery plans. You must be comfortable with ambiguity, managing multiple initiatives across their lifecycles and shaping programmes from inception through to delivery.

The position will be based in Welwyn Garden City.

Technical Programme Managers (TPMs) deliver cross-functional technology programmes that support colleagues and help serve our customers better. They work collaboratively, influence Product, Engineering and business colleagues and lead the programme to deliver value quickly and often.

Whilst specific responsibilities will be dependent upon the changing needs of the Tesco business, the overall objective will be to deliver against the Save to Invest objectives to enable an optimised checkout experience. Your role will be focused on shaping, planning and implementing experiments and feature delivery to stores in an Agile environment. The following provides an overview of the role’s key responsibilities and measures:

· Deliver high priority & value business outcomes as part of the Tesco till programme

· Engage Business and Technology teams across Tesco

· Co-ordinate input to/from Programme, Technology and Business teams (for example Store Operations)

· Understand & manage dependencies between programmes (Hardware, Finance, Data, Stock)

· Build positive relationships with suppliers & external stakeholders to deliver software or professional services

· Define and track performance against customer and business KPIs

· Remove impediment and ensures that the right product is delivered

· Contribute actively to TPM community

· Have a proven record of accomplishment in delivering technology; having done so across multiple teams in multiple geographies

· Have experience of building credible relationships and influencing senior management & leadership teams

· Strong Project, Stakeholder & Programme management skills

· Vendor management and negotiating skills

· Reporting skills for programmes and financial forecasting

· Excellent communication & influencing skills and
