Greater China Strategy Lead

The candidate will be a key member of the Strategy & Transformation team in the Greater China (GC) MU based out of China (Preferably Beijing or else also flexible for Shanghai).
This candidate will be responsible for executing China Growth Plan which is part of SAP’s Board level Strategy and Transformation agenda. The candidate is responsible to drive mid-to long term profitable growth, enabled by clear and data-backed strategic priorities which are:

  • aligned with SAP’s Corporate Strategy and the SAP’s Global Customer Success Strategy,
  • bought-in and supported by the APAC regional leadership,
  • targeted to uncover and unlock sustained growth,
  • focused on driving efficiencies and revenue predictability across the region,
  • backed by aligned investment and capacity allocation decisions.
  • Strong alignment and partnership with GC MD in executing the GC Strategy

The role will have direct exposure to key members of the Global, Regional senior leadership team as well as SAP’s Executive Board Members.

Responsibilities

Global planning processes

  • Contribution to GC’s planning processes in collaboration with global teams, GC GTM and APAC S&O leader including:
    • Multiyear business planning processes, capacity planning and the associated workforce transformation
    • Investment planning (outlines strategic rationale and delivers business cases to help secure funding e.g. acceleration of AI roadmap etc.)

GC Growth Plan has 4 dedicated workstreams and the candidate is expected to support and execute on the 4 WS’s. The workstreams include the following:-

  • China Cloud Strategy
  • Ecosystem Diversification
  • People and Workforce Transformation
  • Refining the GTM

Strategic programs

  • Continuously assesses performance vis a vis global strategic targets to identify and propose strategic programs (top and bottom-line) for RP and his SET – this includes but is not limited to:
    • Aligning with the regional Financial Plan
    • GC dedicated growth plans
    • Solution areas growth plans e.g. AI, Business Data Cloud
    • Segment growth plans, as well as engagement motions growth plans (Partner capability and capacity build, Digital hub expansion etc)
    • Customer innovation strategy
    • Employer of Choice strategy

  • Ensures that the regional strategic enablers are in place and hence aligns on investments across Point of Presence, GTM motions and workforce transformation

Supports the transformation part of the team in regionalizing global strategic programs (NLAC, NLT etc) as well as ensuring that recommendations coming out of strategic programs are set up for execution (workstreams/KPIs to ensure timely impact)

Connecting tissue

  • Represents the region’s interests in global strategic program design/definitions (example NLAC) and channels global strategic programs and priorities to the region
  • Leverages continuously regional strategy counter parts as well as global experts for best practice identification/execution (e.g. AI, growth, Digital Hub expansion etc)

People centric growth and talent upskilling on SAP’s and APAC strategy

  • Lives and role-models the credo: Do what’s right. Make SAP better for generations to come!
  • Ensures that the APAC Strategy, Transformation & Operations team is fully enabled on global and regional strategic priorities e.g. GTM including what role each individual play in accelerating & realizing SAP Strategy and APAC Regional Strategic programs
  • Supports the business with enablement on SAP strategy, CS GTM strategy for existing employee groups in CS and other board areas such as CS&D, Comms, Finance, as well as GC new hire onboarding

Experience

  • Minimum 3-5 years strategic problem-solving experience from McKinsey & Co, Boston Consulting Group, or Bain & Co. (MBB) plus or prior experience within a SAAS company in a strategy role with ability to independently:
    • Structure a multi-dimensional problem solving (such as ‘how to improve MU cloud revenue’, ‘how to drive growth in certain SAP/GSSP practices, ‘How to enhance regional revenue mix between public and private to drive margins?’)
    • Prioritize issues/opportunities to solve problem
    • Plan required analyses and data/sources needed
    • Execute the necessary analyses leveraging business experts
    • Synthesize findings
    • Develop recommendations to leadership using ‘WHY, WHAT and HOW’ storyline
  • SAP field experience: Solid track record in a customer-facing field role such as Customer Advisory, Services, CSM etc alternatively in a role that focuses on performance enhancement of the field e.g. Corporate Strategy, Revenue Ops, CS GTM, GSI etc
  • Stakeholder management Well versed in leveraging global stakeholders to unlock roadblocks (e.g., accelerating global guidance, business case approvals etc.) and leveraging regional stakeholders to support project identification, sizing and execution

KPIs (not inclusive)

  • Project impact on regional performance: Regional KPIs such as cloud revenue growth, regional cloud revenue quality and efficiency
  • Stakeholder satisfaction: NPS for leadership stakeholders (global and regional stakeholders).

Language: Bilingual with Fluency in Mandarin and English

Education: Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent accreditation required; master’s degree, PhD or MBA Preferred
