Overview

The Industry Solutions Engineering (ISE) team is a global engineering organization that has operated Microsoft’s Forward Deployed Engineering function for over a decade, working directly with customers to co-engineer solutions to their toughest business challenges. We don’t build things and hand them over. We embed ourselves with customers, engineer side-by-side, and create real business value together.

We operate in small, multidisciplinary teams, enabling tight feedback loops and rapid iteration. Together, we build AI-powered, cloud-based solutions that deliver measurable business outcomes. Our work is powered by methodology of applying AI across the full lifecycle to build and ship secure, production-ready solutions from day one, accelerating time to value without sacrificing quality, control, or trust. We collaborate with Microsoft product teams, partners, and open-source communities to create reusable, high-impact solution patterns that contribute to the broader Microsoft platform.

We are hiring a Multidisciplinary Manager to lead a cross‑discipline engineering team, operating with a portfolio mindset to deliver high‑impact customer outcomes while coaching talent, modeling engineering excellence, and strengthening ISE’s multidisciplinary operating model.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a multidisciplinary engineering team, owning a portfolio of work to maximize customer and Microsoft value through strong portfolio and delivery leadership.
  • Provide clear coaching, career development, and performance support for engineers across software engineering, technical program management, and data science, fostering growth in a multidisciplinary environment.
  • Serve as a player‑coach by taking on selected engagements, modeling engineering fundamentals, customer‑obsessed execution, and inclusive, cross‑discipline collaboration.
  • Partner with leadership and discipline managers to ensure healthy team rhythms and strong operational excellence across engagements.
  • Contribute to a culture of continuous learning by elevating engineering practices, sharing reusable patterns and accelerators, and strengthening our multidisciplinary operating model.
  • Champion AI‑forward hypervelocity engineering by guiding teams to apply responsible AI practices, leverage accelerators and reusable patterns, and integrate emerging AI capabilities into customer solutions and delivery.

Qualifications

Required/Minimum Qualifications (RQs/MQs)

  • Bachelor's Degree AND significant years experience in engineering, product/technical program management, data analysis, or product development OR equivalent experience.
  • Relevant experience in engineering leadership and people management
  • Experience managing cross-functional and/or cross-team projects.
  • Experience or interest working with partners.
  • Comfortable with a travel requirement of approximately 25%

Additional or Preferred Qualifications (PQs)

  • Experience reading and/or writing code (e.g., sample documentation, product demos
