Job Description

The Centre of Excellence for Commercial Finance provides all finance decision support and finance business partnering to the business, via direct support into our Agile Tribes and Squads. The team are responsible for all decision support, including pricing and proposition evaluation across acquisition, in-life, retention, and future propositions, as well as marketing, stock, contact, channels and data analytics & platforms. This includes any analysis to support achievement of business objectives & key results. Tesco Mobile is on a fantastic agile transformation journey, and the team continually adapt processes & outputs to support this.

A key position within the Centre of Excellence for Commercial Finance, day to day this role works supporting the business in its endeavors to manage and optimise its cost base efficiently and effectively. The key purpose of the role is to provide financial partnering and decision support to the business, including driving financial accountability and optimisation via partnering and deployment of due diligence, deep dive, modelling, continuous improvement and lean techniques.

The role could cover, though not limited to, areas such as handset returns, stock management, stock shrinkage and bad debt & fraud amongst other areas. The role could also cover producing business cases for growth and pricing initiatives to drive profitable growth, as well as partnering and driving opportunities across the business and across our customer base.

The successful candidate will need to help ensure our agile transformation delivers highly successful outcomes whilst maintaining and evolving appropriate governance. As a member of an Agile team, the successful candidate is expected to help support the wider team's objectives and deliverables as applicable.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead on partnering key stakeholders in relation to their cost base, including improving governance around decisions, implementing new controls, and driving accountability
  • Drive optimisation of costs: identifying cost drivers, evaluating the value derived from the spend, and working with commercial stakeholders to optimise this
  • Leading deep dives into specific cost lines: using techniques from due diligence, deep dives, financial modelling, continuous improvement and lean thinking to establish the key drivers
  • Input into & drive the prioritisation of initiatives, influencing our commercial tribes & squads to maximise value
  • Identify risks and opportunities for P&L delivery and cashflow, via ad-hoc analysis and outlook/forecast/budget processes as applicable, including impact of decisions on other parts of the business, whilst proactively seeking to manage and mitigate risks
  • Producing business cases for growth and pricing initiatives to drive profitable growth, as well as partnering and driving opportunities across the business and across our customer base

The must haves

In order to be considered, you must have the following experience;

  • Qualified accountant
  • Track record of partnering with non-Finance stakeholders to achieve brilliant outcomes
  • Strong communication skills, with keen eye for detail and an ability to spot trends & drivers to drive optimisation
  • Ability to influence stakeholders
  • Resilience: not afraid to challenge the status quo and drive outstanding performance
  • Knowledge & experience of financial modelling, evaluation of options, and value generation
  • Excellent analytical skill, with ability to convert data into clear and engaging insight
