What you’ll be doing...

Our Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) SOX team is responsible for overseeing policies, processes, people and systems supporting internal controls over financial reporting. As a Consultant on the IT SOX team, you will play a central role in translating SOX compliance requirements into internal Verizon control guidance and enforcing a strong control environment.

  • Assessing the quality of management’s IT SOX control testing, and providing feedback to strengthen management’s assessment of control design and operating effectiveness.

  • Developing and delivering training to business and IT stakeholders on IT SOX control requirements to enforce a strong and compliant control environment.

  • Understanding both business process and IT related risks/controls to perform system scoping activities, identify control efficiency opportunities, and advice on remediating control gaps.

  • Facilitating communication between our external auditors and control owners to ensure there is a clear understanding of audit requests, alignment on relevant risk areas, and the sufficiency of controls designed to address those risks.

  • Executing on time sensitive issues and bringing them to appropriate conclusions.

  • Building relationships with business/IT leaders, external auditors, and other Verizon compliance teams.

What we’re looking for...

You are comfortable being viewed as a subject matter expert on IT SOX control guidance, and it is critical that you are a great communicator. As a Consultant on the team, you will be expected to build trust and relationships with team members, internal control stakeholders, external auditors and other Verizon compliance teams. You know how to tailor your messaging based on the audience, translating technical topics into appropriate terms without losing their impact or meaning. You can adapt to changing circumstances, juggle competing priorities, and combine a sense of urgency with due care and attention to detail. You also enjoy analyzing problems and delivering solutions to improve the control environment.

You’ll need to have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, Math, or Information Systems or four or more years of work experience.

  • Four or more years of relevant work experience.

  • Experience in GRC tools.

  • Experience leveraging auditing principles and methods to evaluate policies, processes and systems to identify risks and control gaps.

  • Project management experience.

Even better if you have one or more of the following:

  • Public accounting IT audit experience.

  • A relevant professional certification (e.g., CISA, CPA, CIA, CFE).

  • Experience in applying technical internal controls or audit knowledge in one or more of the following areas: System Development Lifecycle procedures, SOX ITGCs, SOC 1 reviews.

  • Experience in project management, organizational, facilitation, and negotiation skills.

  • IT Controls knowledge in emerging technology areas such as robotic process automation, business intelligence and analytics tools, Blockchain, and Cloud.

  • Experience driving complex solutions and analytics to provide ongoing and automated monitoring of key risks.

  • Telecommunications experience.

If Verizon and this role sound like a fit for you, we encourage you to apply even if you don’t meet every “even better” qualification listed above.
