Key Responsibilities

The Waste & Resource Traceability Consultant is key to the delivery of one of Valpak’s fastest growing services,


Zero Waste to Landfill Certification (ZWTL). This is an exciting role requiring the individual to be a driven person with the ability to learn quickly and to keep calm under pressure


The Waste & Resource Traceability Consultant is a mixture of field based and desk based, where you will act as an ambassador for the company, providing outstanding customer service. You will also demonstrate exceptional knowledge of waste management and waste regulations across the UK and Europe. There is likely to also be opportunities to travel internationally to Europe. The Waste & Resource Traceability Consultant will also aid the delivery of Valpak’s Rio and Better Cotton Initiative (BCI) Independent Assessment services. This role will also dedicate some time to the Department’s other services including vape recycling and other voluntary takeback initiatives.

Conduct ZWTL audits and other types of audits as required:

  • Work with the Waste & Resource Traceability Team to deliver customer audits in line with their contracts as well as securing renewals.
  • Plan own audit schedule with an efficient and professional approach, maximising time and resources.
  • Ensure all data and evidence meets Valpak’s ZWTL standard, advising customers appropriately.
  • Complete audits both face to face and online.
  • Work with the Waste & Resource Traceability Manager to ensure growth can be delivered.
  • Where required support wider team by assisting with report writing.

Understanding of existing waste regulations and waste management:

  • Be able to answer technical questions about the ZWTL standard in relation to current and potential customers’ waste.
  • Maintain/develop a detailed knowledge of waste management and waste compliance in the UK.
  • Work with Waste & Resource Traceability Manager to grow the department’s knowledge of international waste regulations.

Rio:

  • Account manage Rio customers who don’t have additional support from Valpak.
  • Gather and upload customer data and complete any required customer reports for Rio customers who have additional support from Valpak.
  • Have a thorough understanding of Rio, what it does and how to use it and be able to assist with demos where the Client Team are unavailable.

BCI Independent Assessments:

  • Develop and maintain a detailed knowledge of BCI, their membership requirements and Valpak's offering.
  • Complete online audits.
  • Ensure all data and evidence meets the BCI's standard.
  • Deliver reports in a timely manner upon completion of audits.

Vape Recycling:

  • Support in the coordination and arrangement of vape collections for recycling.
  • Onboarding new customers for the service.
  • Complete monthly reports.
  • Liaise with Finance to arrange billing.

Voluntary Takeback:

  • Work with Head of Voluntary Compliance and Commercial Manager to develop new takeback initiatives.
  • Arrange trial systems for new materials

Customer Service:

  • Provide excellent service and work with customer to understand their business needs, and any ways in which we can help them.
  • Develop a rapport with other departments within the business to ensure outstanding member service is delivered at all times.
  • Host and present at Valpak events both face to face and webinars on both services and the general topic waste and recycling where required.

Promote Valpak’s service offering

  • Be fully aware of and actively promote Valpak’s service offering.
  • Identify and source leads during customer facing situations, where possible.

General administrative duties

  • Ensure accurate records of all customer contact are maintained within Valpak’s in-house systems.

Skills, Knowledge & Expertise

  • Waste management experience (essential)
  • Auditing experience (essential)
  • Customer focused with drive to provide the highest level of customer satisfaction
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, in particular Excel
  • Strong communication and confident presentation skills
  • Valid drivers’ licence and confident driver
  • Ability to demonstrate a broad knowledge of the business and industry
  • Flexibility and adaptability to working practice
  • Exceptional organisational skills with the ability to prioritise own workload
  • Attention to detail and a professional, proactive work ethic
  • Excellent team player
  • An interest or experience in environmental issues with a membership to a professional body such as IEMA or CIWM (desirable)
  • Ability to stay away from home from time to time
