About the role

We recently raised $33m Series A and are growing fast, therefore we are looking for a Director of Engineering with a strong background and experience in building and growing efficient engineering teams.

As Head of Engineering, you will report to the CTO and complement his technical skills, taking the lead on the execution and day to day operations of engineering.

What You'll Do

  • Drive continuous improvement and innovation in the engineering team to improve quality, productivity and efficiency.
  • Managing and mentoring the Engineering team, helping them to grow their skills and advance in their careers.
  • Managing and tracking the team’s performance metrics and goals, and providing regular feedback and coaching to team members.
  • Review and approve engineering execution plans and their alignment with the project execution plans.
  • Work with the Engineering Managers and Leads to ensure that project resource plans are realistic and match the remaining work to go on projects.
  • Overseeing the hiring and onboarding of new Engineering team members.
  • Making sure engineering delivery business procedures and best practices are being used.
  • Ensure that the Engineering team size and make up is matched to the business needs.

  • Participate in review meetings with a critical eye to risk opportunities and risk reduction as required.

Who You Are

  • Previous experience in a similar role, with responsibility of managing multiple engineering teams from the people and delivery side; you know how to manage people effectively.
  • Come from fast-growing, high tech engineering organisations where you have seen and played a big part in hyper growth phases.
  • Ideally, you have taken a team from around 50 engineers to around 400 in size.
  • You have the ability to develop this part of the organisation by being a manager of managers, initiating and taking strategic action, conveying our mission and purpose from a business and technical perspective.
  • Guide the engineering teams through change and improvement of overall processes.
  • Proven ability in building a strong engineering culture with a focus on employee morale and motivation, talent development, management of performance and conveying purpose.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively across the organisation.
  • Ability to take ownership and initiate plans.
  • You thrive in a start-up environment and have a big interest in working in a hyper growth company with the passion to grow and shape a motivated and high performing engineering function.
