This is a fantastic opportunity to work for Europe’s largest nature conservation organisation and support colleagues to deliver a wide-ranging portfolio of work in a healthy, safe and sustainable way. You will find that no two days are alike as you work with different teams at different locations throughout Central England. If you have a track record in health and safety and would like to apply your skills and experience in the diverse operational environments of the UK's leading nature conservation charity, this could be the opportunity for you.

What's the role about?

The role will involve advising staff and volunteers on health, safety and environmental matters across the full range of our operations. Based in Central England you will get to work at some amazing places with people who are passionate about nature conservation. You will also contribute to and influence how we do things nationally with opportunities to work on society wide policies and procedures. By supporting our teams to work safely and sustainably you will be directly contributing to our conservation objectives with teams being happier, healthier and more effective in their roles.

A knowledge of or an interest in nature conservation would be an advantage. The RSPB England reserve estate covers over 100 individual sites, with more than 60,000ha that are home to important habitats and wildlife. The Central England area includes numerous nature reserves including the amazing Sherwood Forest. You will have a pragmatic and problem solving approach to health, safety and wellbeing, and be willing to learn how to deal with a wide range of issues in sometimes challenging and novel situations. You will be self-reliant, have good interpersonal skills, be IT literate and be willing and able to travel throughout Central England and elsewhere when required.

We are looking for at least a Technician Member of IOSH or equivalent, looking to use your health and safety knowledge in new and challenging situations. Wellbeing is also of significant importance to our RSPB culture and an understanding of the principles of visitor risk management is highly desirable.

The successful candidate would need to be located in the Central England area and they could be home, dual, or office based.

Essential skills, knowledge and experience:

  • Demonstrate knowledge of health and safety management systems and their operation.
  • Understand and interpret legislation applicable to RSPB operations and its impact on them

  • Respond to incidents and complete incident investigations
  • Deliver H&S training
  • Promote greening and sustainability objectives
  • Technician Membership of Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (or equivalent)
