Platform Engineer

Quantexa are looking for a Platform Engineer to help our teams develop and deploy solutions to fight fraud and financial crime within Financial Services and Government. Quantexa deploy our solutions into a combination of client owned on-premises infrastructure and client managed cloud platforms. We’re looking for an individual who can take ownership of the installation and DevOps processes on our clients’ environments across several projects. This includes defining best practice and providing input and assurance on Quantexa Platform throughout the project lifecycle.

As part of this you will be using tools such as Jenkins, Bamboo, Bitbucket Runners or other orchestration and CICD tools to help our clients’ with setting up an agile driven, fit to purpose SDLC ecosystem within their context of Software Delivery and based on Quantexa best practices, standards, and deployment requirements. 🧬

A key part of the role involves working with project teams, client stakeholders and internal development teams to define how Quantexa solutions are built, tested and deployed and then guiding, supporting, and helping other engineers in these activities to build self sufficient teams and to enable you to add the most value across a number of projects.

An enthusiasm for picking up new methods and technologies is as important as existing industry knowledge. This role would be ideal for an individual with a good level of experience at hands on delivery, with a passion for DevOps and DevSecOps and working in client facing environments.

Typical Responsibilities Include

• Taking a key role in defining, rolling out and continually improving DevOps best practice throughout projects
• Working with project teams, client stakeholders and internal development teams to define how Quantexa solutions are built, tested, and deployed
• Reconciling modern DevOps practices with client development and deployment processes

• Providing assurance and guidance across a wide range of projects hosted on both client infrastructure
• Help, support, and provide both technical and hands-on guidance on setting up CICD pipelines in accordance with Quantexa solution best practices and industry standards using orchestration tools such as Jenkins, Bamboo, Gitlab Runners etc.
• Help, support, and provide both technical and hands-on guidance on configuration, and setting up automation tools for Quantexa Batch functions such as ETL using automation tools such as Airflow, Bash, Data Factory etc.
• Provide both technical and hands-on guidance on installation, configuration, and setting up Quantexa underlying required systems and software including Elasticsearch, Spark, Hadoop, Kubernetes, Postgres, MySQL, and or Oracle with our platform being hosted on both private and public virtual clouds (depending on our clients’ environment of choice), such as Google cloud, Microsoft Azure and Amazon.

Requirements

What do I need to have?

• Understanding of how to integrate modern DevOps techniques into large organisations with existing development and deployment processes
  
• Expert level experience of designing and building Continuous Integration pipelines to support efficient and high-quality development
• Strong understanding of Information Security practices and deploying efficiently into secure environments
• Knowledge of good practices for testing and deploying data processing applications e.g. in Spark
• Experience deploying into container management platforms e.g. Kubernetes or OpenShift
• An understanding of common deployment patterns and how these map onto underlying infrastructure
• Good communication skills and experience working with different customers, partner organizations and cultures.
• Have an excellent appreciation of what makes a high quality, operationally stable system and how to streamline all areas of development, release, and operations to achieve this.
• Experience at working with a variety of modern development tooling (e.g., Git, Gradle, Jenkins, Nexus) as well as technologies supporting automation and DevOps (e.g., Ansible, Chef, Puppet, Docker and a little bit of good old Bash scripting).
• Enthusiasm to learn and develop emerging technologies and techniques.
• Demonstrate strong analytical and problem-solving skills and the ability to debug and solve technical challenges with sometimes unfamiliar technologies.

Knowledge of the following would be beneficial:

• Java / Scala or software engineering skills
• Experience with setting up production environments on cloud infrastructure
• Experience with setting up performance testing tooling
• Systems integration experience such as integrating with novel authentication tools
